Apple Confirms Web App Slowdown in iOS 4.3

The Register received word directly from Apple that web apps are in fact running slower on iOS 4.3 because they're not optimized for the new Nitro JavaScript engine.

"The embedded web viewer does not take advantage of Safari's web performance optimizations." Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller tells The Register. It would seem that these optimizations include the Nitro JavaScript engine as well as certain Safari caches and the browser's "asynchronous" rendering mode.

Blaze Software conducted a ridiculously comprehensive browser speed test between Android and iPhone to determine which platform has the faster browser. After 45,000 tests, they found that in terms of straight line browser speed, the Android browser smokes the iPhone.

Full size

The Android browser was on average 52% faster than the iPhone, which meant an average time of 2.1 seconds per site load vs 3.2 seconds for the iPhone. That's a pretty big difference! And Android was consistently faster than the iPhone too, in Blaze's tests, Android bested the iPhone in 84% of the tested websites with the iPhone only winning 16% of the time.

Also interesting: the much ballyhooed JavaScript speed improvements in iOS 4.3 and Android 2.3 don't actually make their browser load websites any faster. There was actually a slight dip in load times between iOS 4.3 and 4.2 (3.25 seconds vs. 3.18 seconds on iPhone 4.2) and only a modest gain in Android 2.3 vs 2.2 (2.14 seconds vs 2.37 seconds in Android 2.2), it seems that the JavaScript improvements shine more in benchmarks than actual application.

Blaze Software conducted their test with an iPhone 4 running iOS 4.3 and a Google Nexus S running Android 2.3. Tests were performed over Wi-Fi.

Confirmed ! Gevey SIM Can Unlock iPhone 4 in US On Baseband 2.10.04 / 3.10.01

Nuotrauka

Nuotrauka

For those of you who don’t know, Gevey SIM for iPhone 4 basically works by forcing the activation of the baseband using the emergency dialer, and it is also said to be vulnerable up to iOS 4.3.

If you are tired of waiting for software-based unlock, you can get this mod to unlock your iPhone 4. However we at Redmond Pie wont recommend it due to its current legal status. Dev-Team is still working on an unlock solution. We suggest to wait for the 40-bit NCK hack for iPhone 4 by the iPhone Dev-Team.

Na ką, jau net nebesvarbu kokia iOS, tik basebandas dabar. ;) Fainai fainai. ;) Dabar iOS 4.3 sulaukt reikia jaibreak'o normalaus ir mestis link iOS 4.3 galutinai...

iOS 4.3.1 on its way. According to BGR reports -who has a good track record regarding Apple rumors- that Apple is about to release iOS 4.3.1 within one to two weeks. Let's check out the expected updates on iOS 4.3.1.

Nuotrauka

* Baseband updates for the 3GS and iPad (original)

* Fixed memory hang that results in memory corruption when reading large files from USIM filesystem

* Fixed problem with NTLM authentication in apps and on websites

* Fixed issue with the Springboard and 3rd party apps not recognizing the gyroscope on the iPad 2

* Fixed iPad 2 jailbreak vulnerability

Now, I think Stefan Essar -the guy behind the iPad 2 upcoming jailbreak- shall modify his jailbreak schedule to save his exploit for to jailbreak iOS 4.3.1.

Comex’s iOS 4.3 Jailbreak uses a Userland Exploit

Nuotrauka

Last week we reported about Comex being the first to jailbreak iOS 4.3 on the iPad 2. Today we find out a bit more information about this iOS 4.3 jailbreak. In a reply to a tweet asking him what kind of exploit Comex had found in iOS 4.3, he said that he uses a userland exploit, meaning the jailbreak can be applied directly from the device, a la JailbreakMe.

Because a userland jailbreak can easily be patched via a software update, and with the rumors of iOS 4.3.1 coming in the next couple weeks, I doubt we will see Comex’s jailbreak before then…

In his tweet, Comex also refers to a bootrom exploit, which probably is i0n1c’s jailbreak we talked about a couple weeks ago. Because this type of jailbreak can only be patched via a hardware upgrade, the jailbreak community might want to save this exploit for after the iPhone 5 comes out.

Since he revealed he had successfully jailbroken an iPad 2 on iOS 4.3, we didn’t get much more information about the jailbreak. I assume this userland exploit would work with any device on iOS 4.3, but this has yet to be confirmed.

Na laukiam normalaus 4.3 jailbreak... :D
