Well today Ubisoft is throwing us a bone, and confirming the starting area for the game as the Green Zone. The Green Zone is a social area (like The Tower in Destiny) where you’ll be able to chill out and be safe from the waves of enemies in the city.

They also share that trading items and gear will be pretty important in this title, but they’re still in the process of working it out. That’s pretty sweet to hear, especially since trading was one of the things that we missed out on in Destiny. Its good to know that Ubisoft also thinks that shared world shooters need this important feature.

Finally they mention character creation and customization, which is another important part of the experience:

That’s the first thing you will do in the game. You will create your character and it’s not like there is a predetermined hero set. It’s all about you, how you want to experience the game and in what order you want to experience the content. The same goes for the character, you decide how you want to look

In The Division, players will be able to battle each other on top of roofs, inside of buildings, on the street and below the surface of NYC. Fredrik Rundqvist, who is an executive producer on Tom Clancy's The Division, spoke with Examiner.com about player choice and how the city will be open from the start.

"We wanted to have the full map be open from the start and you can go anywhere you like. [The Division] about exploring, it’s about investigation; it’s about playing the game the way you want.

"Rooftop gameplay will be mixed with everything else and what we wanted to do with the game is not have a linear progression where you [do things in order]. So if you want to climb up to a rooftop, we won’t stop you from going up there," Rundqvist said.

We received our first glimpse at rooftop gameplay with The Division's Gamescom 2013 trailer, and the same can be said for the mobile gameplay integration. Tom Clancy's The Division will most likely pop-up again at Gamescom this year, or at least that's what we're expecting.

 

 Rundqvist talked about the in-game map and how essential it is to navigating New York City, as well as acquiring new missions to complete.

"As you’ve seen in both demos, the map is one of the most essential tool sets you have in the game. Nowadays, it’s hard to get around without your smartphone, and I think in the game it will be even tougher to be there without the map. You can check out all of the points of interest, you can set waypoints for yourself or for other people. It’s a great tool to see what’s out there to do," Rundqvist said.

Some of you may not want to take part in any multiplayer in The Division, and you may wonder if your journey will be as authentic because of it. Tom Clancy's The Division's Executive Producer Fredrik Rundqvist spoke with Examiner.com and answered the question of does single player only take away from the experience?

"Not really. I think it’s fair to say we’ve been designing and prototyping the game from the start to be a multiplayer game. Honestly, I play the game every week with the team and I play on my own. I’m not a co-op kind of guy and it’s still great. I think it’s fair to say that the game really shines when you play with other people," Rundqvist said.

Rundqvist told us he prefers playing solo, but The Division has swayed him in the direction of multiplayer. Being a classless RPG Rundqvist talked about how Massive wants players to be able to change up "different specs and different loadouts" on the fly. It's unclear to what extent players will be able to change their characters, but we're assuming changing in the middle of combat is not going to happen, then again it could.

Being able to jump from one class to another in an instant is something RPGs tend to miss, but Massive's game will be different. Massive has that exact thing in mind. Rundqvist said they have a strong desire to let players change things up, even their class, whenever they want.

"[sometimes] I may want to be the medic this time, maybe the brute force kind of guy the next time. This way you don’t have to create a new character or restart the game. You just go into your menu and change what you want," Rundqvist said

Jackfrags confirmed at behind the closed door demonstration, Tom Clancy's The Division was running on Xbox One. He saw the consoles, controllers and the UI of the system.

According to Jackfrags, in The Division, players play as a member of a group trying to figure out where the infection that killed off the populace came from. The mission that was showcased was to clear a museum of enemies and make it a base.

Jackfrags added that The Division felt like MMORPG-ish, skills trees and customization. Players can have an option to change up skills for different weapons and combat techniques (stealth, assault, etc.).

Furthermore, Jackfrags raised some questions on how good Tom Clancy's The Division looks on Xbox One. He stated that although demonstration looks great it was not as good looking as the initial reveal, there were jaggies on distant objects and was only running at 30 FPS.

We have listed below some important points from Jackfrags impression below:

  • Was running on Xbox One. Saw the consoles, controllers and the UI of the system
  • You play as a member of a group trying to figure out where the infection that killed off the populace came from

  • Not locked into those skill trees, can change at any point
  • Everything is very stat based. Every piece of equipment had some sort of stats.

  • There is going to be a base building and fortification element in the game, when asked about it, "We can't talk about that right now."
  • Characters interact heavily with the environments like in the original reveal(car doors, smoke and paint cans)
  • Although the game looks great it is definitely not as good looking as the initial reveal(Jaggies on distant objects and only running at 30 fps)
  • Really pushing on the interaction between console and the tablet app

Tom Clancy's The Division is scheduled to launch at some point in 2015 for PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
