Here is the Gollum from The Lord of the Rings being rendered in real-time in Unreal Engine 4

Christian Hecht has shared a video, showing a highly detailed 3D model of the Gollum from The Lord of the Rings being rendered in real-time in Unreal Engine 4. Gollum’s 3D model looks absolutely incredible and it’s almost as detailed as the one we saw in the actual movies, so kudos to Christian for achieving that.

Now since this was created by an individual, we find it really cool. It can also give us an idea of what developers could accomplish if they pushed Epic’s engine to its limits. We also don’t know what GPU is needed to run this scene with 60fps and since this is a incredibly detailed model, we don’t know whether a scene featuring more than three or four highly detailed models is achievable.

Moreover, and as you will see, the 3D model is not animated. Animation is an area that can make or break a game, see Mass Effect Andromeda as an example, no matter how detailed a 3D model is. Since this is a static scene, we also don’t have any dynamic shadows or changes to the skin shaders, lighting or terrain. In other words, while a modern-day GPU can run this scene, it most likely can’t run a game featuring this kind of visuals.

Still, we believe that this is a really cool fan tech video as it can give us a glimpse at the future. And to be honest, I’m not sure whether next-gen games will be able to come close to these visuals (unless there are compromises to other areas).

Kiek pamenu tokios temos nebuvo tai galima bus kartas nuo karto papildyti tema kokiais nors engine progresais.

Wojciech Chalinski, Environment artist at Bulkhead Interactive, has been experimenting with Unreal Engine and created a map inspired by Remedy’s classic Max Payne game. From the looks of it, Chalinski has used Unreal Engine and has recreated the Roscoe Street Station from the game.

In other words, this fan recreation will give you a small idea of what a modern-day remake of Max Payne could have looked like in 2019. To his credit, Chalinski was able to keep the aesthetics of the game intact but then again the game’s subway station wasn’t artistically anything original to begin with.

Unfortunately, Chalinski has not released this map to the public so we can’t re-experience this level ourselves. Still, below you can find some screenshots and two videos showcasing this map.

From what we know, Take Two does not plan to release a new part in the Max Payne series. And while there could be a remaster of the first two games, we won’t see any proper remake for these games any time soon. Of course by proper remake I’m referring to what Activision and Capcom did with the remakes of Spyro, Crash Bandicoot and Resident Evil 2.

Perdirbejai senu zaidimu pradeda eiti kazkokia tinkama linkme.

NVIDIA has had a major presence at CES 2019 in the last couple of days. The company’s new RTX series of graphics card certainly stole the show with several cinematic demonstrations, highlighting the capabilities of ray tracing. One such demonstration was recorded in Battlefield 5 and showed the impressive visuals made possible by RTX ray tracing. However, NVIDIA also released a standalone cinematic demonstration; Project Sol Part 2.

Project Sol Part 2: NVIDIA’s CES 2019 Ray Tracing Demonstration

The first Project Sol cinematic was released by NVIDIA three months ago. Both cinematics feature a man donning a suit of white and gold armour in a manner very reminiscent of Iron Man. While the first cinematic takes place solely within a facility, the second sees the character fly out over a Mars-like environment. As a technical demonstration of ray tracing, the cinematic intentionally features plenty of reflective surfaces; highlighting the ability of the RTX graphics cards to render detailed reflections in real-time. Indeed, the commentators even make a point to state that the cinematic is in real-time. To demonstrate, they alter the lighting intensity and hue, as well as the colour palette of the armour in several ways.

“Everything you just saw, everything you saw, all the lightings, all the shadow, all the animation, everything,” says the demonstration presenter; “all the ray tracing – 100% of it was in real-time. This is not a movie, this is next-generation graphics; this is what RTX enables.”

While ray tracing is the headline feature of the new RTX series, the cards have numerous other advancements and features to improve graphical performance. The presenter even echoes Todd Howard’s now infamous words; “It just works,” although in this case it seems as though it’s actually correct. At present, there are two RTX cards available; the RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti, while the new RTX 2060 will launch very soon. NVIDIA recently announced a new bundle deal; customers who buy the new 2060 can get either Battlefield 5 or Anthem for free. Customers who buy one of the 2080 or 2080 Ti cards, on the other hand, can get both games for free with their purchase.

At GDC 2019, Epic Games showcased an amazing Unreal Engine 4 ray tracing tech demo, called “Troll”. According to the team, this demo was running on a single NVIDIA GeForce RTX2080Ti and showcased what developers can currently achieve with real-time ray tracing.

As Epic Games noted, the following tech demo will give you a glimpse of what developers and creators can do with ray tracing.

Running on Unreal Engine 4.22, the demo is said to mark an unprecedented level of cinematic-quality lighting, with complex soft shadows and reflections.

Nick Penwarden, director of engineering for Unreal Engine at Epic Games, said:

“Ray tracing is more than just reflections — it’s about all the subtle lighting interactions needed to create a natural, beautiful image. Ray tracing adds these subtle lighting effects throughout the scene, making everything look more real and natural and making it easier to create beautiful shots.”
