Just when our eyes had glazed over at the Tegra 2 torrent of tablets and smartphones, along came Compulab with its Trim Slice ultra-compact desktop PC using the NVIDIA chipset. Packing the 1080p-capable SoC in a tiny, fanless metal enclosure, complete with HDMI and Dual-Link DVI ports for twin displays, 1GB of RAM, WiFi b/g/n and gigabit ethernet, we instantly started imagining places for it under our HDTV or tucked in the corner of our desk. ARMDevices caught up with Compulab this week as they brought the Trim Slice to its first trade show; check out the video demo and more details after the cut.

Compulab actually have two versions they’re showing: the slimline model we’ve seen already, and a thicker version that offers a 2.5-inch internal hard-drive bay. OS can either be loaded onto a microSD card in a dedicated slot, onto the 32GB SSD in the slimline Trim Slice, or onto the HDD of the bigger model. It’ll launch with Ubuntu, but the company is working on adding Android 3.0 Honeycomb support by the time the tiny desktop launches.

Compulab expects the first Trim Slice units to ship at the end of April 2011, with pricing at around $250 for the SSD version or around $300 for the HDD version when they hit stores. At that price, we could see it being very popular among both consumers and developers.

kazkaip apie tai as jau senokai galvojau ..stai ir turim naujos kartos desktop PC telpantis i delna. su Tegra2 CPU,full 1080p HDMi out. na tobulas desktop ne geimeriui.nzn arba konsoliu geimeriui kuris su pc nelosia, bet nori turet pc ,taciau pc s uatskiru moniku nekas,ir vieta uzima. o cia normaliai pastatei prie savo konsoliu prie HDTV ,pajungei ir viskas vietoj. $250 uz versija su 32GB SSD tikrai gera kaina. bet gali ir HDD pajungt is siek tiek storesne versija. bet ir tas nera per didelis labai jau ,vos uz pati HDD didesnis. turet full HD 1080p out galimybe is tokio dydzio daikto, tai kazkas idomaus tikrai.. :) tik as noreciau juodo.

Compulab PC3 AMD Fusion

Nuotrauka

Nuotrauka

Compulab comes from nowhere with Fusion mini PC

A surprise entry into the mini desktop market may have upset the traditional definition of a nettop. Compulab's fit-PC3 is both thin (one inch) and small (6.3 inches long) but manages to fit AMD's lower-powered Fusion-based processors, giving them enough performance to handle 1080p video, as much as a 2560x1600 DisplayPort monitor, and even 3D video over HDMI in its most advanced configuration. Although its size pushes it into using a 2.5-inch notebook drive for storage, it has both mini PCI Express micro SATA to provide room for specialized upgrades.

Connections outside of the video output bring Ethernet, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, two USB 3.0 ports and six USB 2.0 ports. Room exists to load the fit-PC3 with as much as 8GB of RAM.

The design is intended as much for custom installs in embedded situations as it is a regular home PC. A barebones kit costs $328 with a 1.2GHz single-core processor and leaves owners to fit in a hard drive, RAM, and Wi-Fi. The lowest-cost complete system costs $488 and moves to a dual-core 1GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Linux Mint installed as the OS. Windows 7 Professional hikes the price to $656

Early Atom N2600 benchmark

Nuotrauka

It goes without saying that benchmarking something pre-release requires a cavalcade of sodium-chloride, but our curiousity was piqued at the prospect of some Cedar Trail sneak-peeks. Netbook Live has been at it again, pitting a 1.6GHz Atom N2600-touting ASUS Eee PC X101CH, against machines sporting 1.66GHz Atom N570 (ASUS 1015PX) and 1.0 GHz AMD C-50 (ASUS 1015B and Tosh NB550D) chips. The initial reports suggest that the 32nm-based N2600 is a touch behind the N570 in general CPU terms, but forges confidently ahead when it comes to graphics. The C-50 showed mixed results in CPU tests, with the N2600 falling behind on graphics this time round. The take-away being if you need more CPU oomph go for the meatier 1.83 GHz N2800.

nauji intel atom CPU N2600. cpu galia atsilieka siek tiek nuo N570, bet lenkia juos grafikoj. taciau AMD C-50 vistiek geresnius GPU turi, kad ir CPU greitis mazesnis.

$25 Raspberry Pi Hobby Computer Doubles iPhone 4S GPU Performance And Beats Tegra 2

Nuotrauka

kreditkes dydzio super mini pc galingiau uz Tegra 2 ir iPhone 4S . eina ant Linux

We have previously reported on the super cheap ARM-based Raspberry Pi hobby computer that's been under development from the Raspberry Pi foundation. However, it's now going into production and is generating a lot of interest, so gamesindustry.biz interviewed its founder, Eben Upton, about it (free registration required).

The computer's primary purpose is as a computer science teaching aid in schools and colleges and also for home brew use by enthusiasts who want to tinker with it and make specialized solutions out of it. However, it seems that enthusiasts will have a nice surprise in that the onboard GPU is surprisingly good. The actual ARM implementation is a Broadcom BCM2835 System on Chip (SoC) containing an ARM 11 CPU and a custom graphics core, which has been designed by the Raspberry Pi team, including Upton. In the interview, Upton claimed that it can double iPhone 4S performance and handily beats NVIDIA's Tegra solution, because of its tile mode architecture.

"Q: We know that you have a 700MHz ARM11 core in the Raspberry Pi SoC. However, you've described the Broadcom chip as a GPU with ARM elements grafted on. Can you give some idea of the rendering power of the graphics core? Is it true that it comprehensively outperforms NVIDIA's Tegra 2? If so, how?

Eben Upton: I was on the team that designed the graphics core, so I'm a little biased here, but I genuinely believe we have the best mobile GPU team in the world at Broadcom in Cambridge. What's really striking is how badly Tegra 2 performs relative even to simple APs using licensed Imagination Technologies (TI and Apple) or ARM Mali (Samsung) graphics. To summarise, BCM2835 has a tile mode architecture - so it kills immediate-mode devices like Tegra on fill-rate - and we've chosen to configure it with a very large amount of shader performance, so it does very well on compute-intensive benchmarks, and should double iPhone 4S performance across a range of content."

There don’t appear to be any objective benchmarks to prove this at the moment, so we will have to take his word for it for now. Of course, this little computer isn't a one trick pony and can do many other things, such as offering full support for 1080p30 Blu-ray h.264 files, making it a competent media player. Also, it runs Linux, which is highly customizable and has a good selection of interfaces, such as USB 2.0, SD, HDMI, RCA video, analog audio and a 10/100 Ethernet port. It is also capable of supporting various expansion boards.

naujas mini pc flasho dydzio,$74. Android 4. OS.1.5-GHz Allwinner A10 CPU, 512MB of RAM, 4GB talpykla.

$74 MK802 PC-on-a-stick beats Cotton Candy to market, has ICS on board

Unless you're lucky enough to live in Scandinavia, you'll have to wait till the end of summer to get your Cotton Candy fix. Aching to nab yourself a computer-on-a-stick before then? If you're willing to step down in specs, the Chinese-made MK802 could be the PC in your pocket. For $74 (versus $199 for the Cotton Candy), this 7-ounce device gives you a 1.5-GHz Allwinner A10 CPU, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage and, like the Cotton Candy, Android 4.0. FXI's version, on the other hand, packs a dual-core 1.2-GHz Samsung Exynos processor, and while the MK802 offers an HDMI port, the Cotton Candy includes an HDMI connector. The MK802 is slightly bulkier than its sweetly named competitor (3.5 inches vs. 3.1), but that Android logo on the front does wonders for its design cred. AliExpress.com is currently selling the MK802 with free shipping to the US -- click the source link for a gander.
