These two new Lumia phones say loud and clear that Nokia is re-committing itself to building the best smartphones on the planet – and that they’re doing it with Windows Phone. That means that just like we built Windows Phone to put people first, they’re building hardware to do the same. Here’s what I mean:

- Our innovation is complementary: To make a product truly “wow-worthy”, you need to build software to work perfectly with hardware, and hardware to work perfectly with software. That’s happening today with Nokia and Windows Phones. Take photos, for example. We built Windows Phone to include a “pocket to picture to post” feature that lets people capture photos and share them through their social networks almost instantly. To complement that, Nokia is building phones with high-end optics from Carl Zeiss so your photos are just as good as those taken with a point-and-shoot. It’s a perfect blend of hardware and software innovation working together to put you and the people you care about first.

- Together, we’re bringing customers more of a good thing: Windows Phone has excellent built-in navigation with Bing Maps and powerful entertainment through Zune. Nokia’s making those even better by including Nokia Drive’s voice-activated free, turn-by-turn navigation and Nokia Music’s massive library of tracks and hundreds of channels from MixRadio. That’s more of a good thing, and it means that you can customize your experience exactly how you’d like it.

- A beautiful OS deserves a beautiful phone: My first mobile phone was a Nokia, and from the moment I picked it up, I knew it was something special. The new Nokia Lumia family feels the same way – well built, sleek, fast, and flat out beautiful. And with Windows Phone onboard, they have an OS that matches that exceptional industrial design every step of the way. You’ll know exactly what I mean when you pick one up for the first time.

- We’re making the ecosystem broader, deeper and stronger: We’re working together to build the Windows Phone ecosystem at every level – empowering developers to build compelling apps that take advantage of new and unique software and hardware features, partnering with component manufacturers to build even more amazing hardware, working with carriers to get Windows Phones into the hands of customers worldwide, and more. The short version of this is…we’re just getting started!

Nesamones. Vienintelis dalykas kuris cia yra kaltas tai $$ troskimas auksciau visko, matomai noreta sekti apple pedomis - daug kvailos reklamos, viskas supaprastinta iki tipinio buko amerikiecio lygio, pilna kvailu apribojimu ir t.t. Starto metu telefonas net multitaskingo neturejo. Ner ko stebetis kodel niekam tie wp7 ir nerupi ir nerupes, juo labiau jie net ir nesistengia, kad kazkam jie rupetu. Patys m$ darbuotojai mieliau renkasi koki apple ar android telefona.

As net neisivaizduoju koki stebukla turi padaryti m$, kad ju siulomas produktas sugebetu bent symbian'a aplenkti. Ir nokia tikrai viena nieko cia neistrauks, ji ne karta jau parode, kad yra flegmatike sioje rinkoje. O gaila, symbian zydejimo laikais galejo bent jau pasiklausyti savo vartotoju, o ne miegoti ant lauru.

If you've been concentrating on which Windows Phones are coming out this fall, here's two more to add to your meditating mind: the Samsung Focus S and its little brother, the Focus Flash, are heading to AT&T on November 6th, according to AT&T's Facebook page. The Focus S, brandishing its 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, 1.4GHz single-core CPU, front-facing cam and 8MP shooter, will be up for grabs at $200; the Flash, meanwhile, can be yours for $50 and still offers the same processor with a smaller 3.7-inch Super AMOLED display, front-facing cam and a 5MP rear camera. Microsoft isleido iOS to Windows Phone 7 API mapping tool kuris leis konvertuoti iOS apps'us i Windows Phone 7.

Nuotrauka

Microsoft has now launched an iPhone/iOS to Windows Phone 7 API mapping tool to helps developers more easily translate their applications to the Windows phone 7 API.

This tool, iPhone developers can take their apps, pick out the iOS API calls, and quickly look up the equivalent classes, methods and notification events in WP7. A developer can search a given iOS API call and find the equivalent WP7 along with C# sample codes and API documentations for both platforms. The code samples allow developers to quickly migrate short blobs of iOS code to the equivalent C# code. All WP7 API documentations are pulled in from the Silverlight, C# and XNA sources on MSDN.The tool works best with Network / Internet, User Interface and Data Management apps and Microsoft hopes to expand the scope In the future versions .Microsoft is also providing a 90+ pages “Windows Phone 7 Guide for iPhone Application Developers” white paper to get developers up and running.

Nokia Lumia 800 Hands-on

Nuotrauka

Inspired by the Nokia N9

The N9 was just stunning to look at. We’re happy to report that it’s the same case with the Nokia Lumia 800. It almost looks and feels identical to the Nokia N9 except that this has a slightly smaller display. The N9 has a 3.9″ display and the Lumia 800 comes in at 3.7″. Both though have the gorgeous AMOLED Clearblack display. Yes, this is the curved Gorilla Glass touchscreen that got a lot of raves even with the N9.

Nuotrauka

At the back you’ll find the Nokia logo as well as the Carl Zeiss 8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash. One noticeable missing component though is the front facing camera. No video calling with this phone. That’s not a big thing here in the Philippines though so that shouldn’t matter much. At the top you’ll find the various ports as well as the micro-SIM tray.

In terms of hardware we have no complaints whatsoever with the Nokia Lumia 800. This thing is simply beautiful.

Software Performance

Windows. That’s the main difference between the Lumia 800 and the N9. We’re happy to report that the user experience is topnotch and at some points even easier and more intuitive than iOS and Android. Applications were snappy and smooth thanks to the 1.4GHz processor and 512MB RAM. That actually puzzled me a bit since the specs aren’t really top tier. Other smartphones run on dual-core processors and 1GB RAM. The smooth user experience is probably due to the software optimization with Windows (kudos to Microsoft for this).

Here are some photos of a few Windows apps:

Nokia Marketplace! This is where Windows needs more improvement. Core apps are there but we need more games! Haha

Make no mistake about it — the Nokia Lumia 800 is a phenomenal smartphone. It delivers all the core services well in a beautiful package. The main challenge really is the timing. Does the market have space for one more ecosystem to thrive? I personally think that there is. Nokia just have to be aggressive with their marketing and recruitment of brand ambassadors and evangelists. At this point it’s really not just a battle of ecosystems, it’s a battle of perception and branding.
