Developer Fullbright, creator of the narrative journey Gone Home, announced their next game Tacoma.

 

What mysteries await you, 200,000 miles from Earth? Who is exploring Lunar Transfer Station Tacoma? And what happened here?

We’re SO EXCITED to get to finally announce what we’ve been working on! The game’s been in development since mid-May, though in July the game went through kind of a big change. Originally it was called Tacoma because the game was going to take place in Tacoma, Washington. It was shaping up to be much more along the lines of what we’d already done. But I was hiking with my wife Rachel on Wizard Island (yes, really) when I had kind of an epiphany that with our next game we needed to push further from territory we’d already explored— and that discussion led to our next game being set on Lunar Transfer Station Tacoma, situated at Lagrange Point 1 between the Earth and our moon.

The challenge with a second title is to give yourself new, big problems to solve. And for us, solving the problems of how story exploration gameplay works in microgravity, what kind of near-future timeline might lead to the existence of Tacoma Station, what this imagined place looks like, what the daily lives of its inhabitants might be like… it’s new and invigorating territory for us all to explore together as developers here at Fullbright. And we hope you’re just excited as we are to see how it all turns out!

 

It follows an astronaut exploring the Lunar Transfer Station Tacoma - a place that looks like BioShock's Rapture in space, or an abandoned set from The Fifth Element sans Chris Tucker.

Reiks kazkaip pradeti bandyti bent jau pirma dali, kad galima butu isivaizduoti kas yra tas Bioshock ir kodel cia tiek nauju zaidimu semiasi is jo ideju.

Gali ir nauja iskart megint bioshock. Jam nereikia ankstesniu but losus. Tik labai skiriasi pats gameplay is tikro nauja dalus tapo labiau shooteriu atviresnese erdvese, kai pirmos dalys grynai uzdaruose kolidoriuose, ten isskirtine atmosfera buvo tikrai.

Gone Home dev's Tacoma delayed to 2017

 

Gone Home developer Fullbright has announced a delay to the release of its follow-up title Tacoma, which will now launch in spring 2017.

 

Tacoma is the story of Amy on the first day on Lunar Transfer Station Tacoma.

 

"We’ve had to push out our original schedule," says the dev. "We’d originally planned mid-to-late 2016, so we’re giving ourselves an additional 6+ months, to land in Spring 2017. We’re currently polishing up a sample of our newly-minted alterations to the core game into something showable that we’ll be showing the world this coming summer."

 

Expanding on why more time is needed, the studio blog explains: "After we did our big unveiling last summer we sent out a playtest build to a bunch of fellow developers we trust, took a long hard look at their feedback and our own feelings on where we were at, and decided to reexamine and rework a number of the core assumptions we’d held about the game. How would gravity really work on a deep-space facility like Tacoma? What are we trying to say about the function and implications of Augmented Reality– and how does the player interact meaningfully with the story content in the game, in a fundamentally different way than anything we’ve worked on before?

 

"We dove in and took this job seriously, redefining a number of elements that really needed it. It’s been an important process (and we’ve recently sent out another playtest, the response to which has made our months of deep-structure soul-searching feel very worth it) but it’s also taken time… time that would’ve otherwise been devoted to getting the game further on toward being finished and shipped."

 

The blog concludes: "Thank you again for all your support & commitment to what we do... we can’t wait to show you more of the new face of Tacoma. We’ve got some very exciting stuff in store…"
