AMD has announced their next-generation of GPUs at an event during Computex. This also includes the hardware for the PS5 that will be powered by AMD.

During the AMD Computex event, it was revealed that PS5 will be powered by AMD Navi GPU and Ryzen “Zen 2” CPU. This is not new information since Sony had already confirmed it earlier in an interview with Wired. What was not known is that Navi GPU won’t use the GCN architecture but instead a new RDNA architecture developed by AMD.

AMD is calling this new tech RDNA which will power their next-generation GPUs. It offers the following advantage.

  • 1.5x performance-per-watt
  • 1.25 performance-per-clock improvement over previous architecture
  • New compute unit design – improved efficiency and increased IPC
  • Multi-level cache hierarchy – reduced latency, higher bandwidth, lower power
  • Streamlined graphics pipeline – optimized for performance-per-clock and high clock speeds

Since PS5 uses the Navi GPU which is based on the same architecture, it will benefit from the same improvements featured in it. AMD will develop a custom variant of the Navi GPU for the PS5. More information on it will be shared at the upcoming E3.

RDNA will power AMD GPUs for the next decade. AMD Radeon RX5000 series are the first batch of Navi GPUs. Raden RX 5700 will be available later in July and offer improved performance over RTX 2070. One example shown was for Strange Brigade demo which runs 10% faster on RX 5700 than on RTX 2070.

This new series will be the world’s 1st PCIe 4.0 enabled gaming GPUs. Price and details for this series weren’t shared today but more information is planned for June 10, which is around the same time as the upcoming E3 2019. Microsoft is also reportedly going to announce their next-generation consoleduring their press conference at E3 so expect to see AMD mentioned there as well.

dar kelis skaiciukus numete .

"Sony is skipping E3 this year, but the company is still offering up some new details about the PlayStation 5: it’ll come with an SSD by default, instead of a slower HDD like the PS4; it’ll support 4K graphics at a 120Hz refresh rate, for a much smoother look on displays that can handle the faster speed; and game saves will in some way be able to transfer between console generations, so you can pick up where you left off when you start playing a game again on the new console."

Potentially momentous PlayStation leaks have been doing the rounds on the internet, and while it’s best to take them with a grain of salt for now – as with any leak of this nature – if true, they could give us a clearer picture of what the next few months are going to look like for Sony and their next gen plans.

As per this leak, which originated on 4chan (via NeoGAF), Sony will be holding a PlayStation Meeting event in February 2020 (the exact date for it is supposedly February 12th), which is when they’ll be formally unveiling the PS5, after having already done a soft reveal of sorts for the system earlier this year. If this is indeed true, that would mean that we’ll find out about the price, release date, and possibly some of the launch titles for the system then.

As per the leak, major publishers like Ubisoft, Activision, EA, Square Enix, and more have received invites for the event already. On the software side of things, Sony will be focusing entirely on two of its biggest upcoming exclusives – The Last of Us Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima – both of which also seem to be in line for PS5 releases.

The leak also claims that Sony has been investing heavily in VR of late, and that numerous tests were carried out internally over the last few months on a PlayStation VR 2, all of which yielded very successful results. Marketing for it is supposed to kick into gear before fiscal year 2021 begins. It’s worth noting, though, that Sony did publicly say not too long ago that they didn’t see the need to push out a PSVR 2 alongside the PS5.

The timeline does fit, not to mention the fact that the PS4 was also revealed at a similar PlayStation Meeting event in early 2013 a few months before its launch, so this leak doesn’t seem too outlandish. That said, as I mentioned before, in the absence of anything official, it’s best to not put too much stock in it.

This isn’t the only major PlayStation leak that’s doing the rounds right now. Apparently, a State of Play stream is also scheduled for November of this year, during which Sony will announce the release date of The Last of Us Part 2.

The next State of Play is scheduled for November 1, 2019

A new Playstation Meeting 2020 dedicated to PS5 has been scheduled for 12 February 2020
