Thirty years ago, The Wizard opened up in theaters and sparked the collective imagination of the Nintendo generation. The idea of travelling to a giant game tournament was seldom heard of, and never on such a extravagant scale. To see kids excelling at video games and going to Universal Studios seemed like the things of which dreams are made. And now, Let’s Play Gaming Expo is going to make all of those dreams happen come true.
The Wizard 30th Anniversary Celebration will start with a multi-day tournament paying homage to the video game cult classic The Wizard. The tournament will be streamed all weekend. Attendees will have Friday and Saturday to register their qualifying scores and then we’ll be cutting it down to our finalists, who will game it out on Sunday to prove who is the true gaming wizard, with the championship being streamed live on Sunday.
LPGE will award the top three (3) high scorers of the Wizard 30th Anniversary Celebration Multi-Day Tournament (The Wizard Tournament) with Wizard themed prize packs, and the highest scorer of the tournament will receive a plane ticket, a hotel room, and pass to Universal Studios Florida in Orlando, Florida.

Publishers, investors and platforms already signed up include Nintendo, Valve, Digital Extremes, Gearbox, Kowloon Nights, Fellow Traveller, Team17, MTG, Giant Games, Jagex, Nicalis, Versus Evil, Those Awesome Guys and many more to be announced.
The event is split into three segments. The morning will feature a series of talks and panels from leading publishers and investors on how to get your game noticed, signed and funded.
What follows is a networking lunch, where you have a chance to talk with the speakers and leading investors and publishers in the room.
And finally, in the afternoon we will hold a series of short 1-to-1 meetings between developers and investors/publishers. Once you've bought a ticket, the Investment Summit team will ask you to fill in a form to enter the meeting system. Publishers and investors will then decide whether to meet with you. A ticket does not guarantee meetings, although the team will facilitate introductions where possible.

There was a time, before Dragon Con, when every convention focusedon its one genre. Gaming conventions were for gamers, literature shows were for readers, and comic book shows were retail events. The establishedconventions were successful, and the organizers stuck to their formulas.
But most fans had multiple interests. It was certainly true for Dragon Con’s founders. They were all science fiction fans, but some of them also enjoyed gaming while others liked comic books. They could go to anyconvention and have a good time, but only for so long before boredom setin.
And that gave them an idea: Combine fandoms and genres into asingle convention for fans who, like them, were interested in differentthings. In the early going, that meant bringing a science fiction convention and gaming convention together in the same hotel. While it doesn’t seem so radical today, it was audacious for its time and, eventually, it upended the staid convention scene.
Chipping in $300 each, Pat Henry, David Cody, John Bunnell and Robert Dennis rounded out with a few of their friends planned the first Dragon Con for the fall of 1987. With notrack record to lean on, they nevertheless managed to attract top name guests. Some 1,200 fans turned out to meet science fiction luminaries Michael Moorcock and Robert Asprin and gaming royalty Richard Garriott and Gary Gygax. Moorcock and his longtime friend Eric Bloom, lead singer for Blue Oyster Cult, jammed on stage. The Atlanta Radio Theater broadcast a live performance of H.P. Lovecraft’s Call of Cthulhu from the con. In almost every respect, the show was a smash.
And so it was for the next two years. The mix of gaming, science fiction and rock ‘n’ roll kept fans coming back. By 1989, helped by the addition of fantasy literature and Guest of Honor Anne McCaffery, Dragon Con’s attendance reached 2,400; double that of the first show.
The next year, 1990, would be something of a breakout year. Dragon Con had been selected to host Origins Game Fair ’90, one of the largest gaming shows in the country. Back then, Origins moved from city to city but had never been held in Atlanta. Dragon Con ’90 was also the year they opened Atlanta Comics Expo, or ACE, bringing an entirely new aspect to the convention.
Expecting a much larger attendance, pushed up by Origins, the comics expo, and an unbelievable line up of guests headlined by novelist Tom Clancy and comic artist ToddMcFarlane, Dragon Con moved to the Atlanta Hilton and Towers, which would become Dragon Con’s home for the next seven years. In fact, attendancedoubled again, to 4,800 people.
Dragon Con was on a roll. Attendance was growing, and the ambition of becoming the convention that offered something for everyone was coming together.

Expecting a much larger attendance, pushed up by Origins, the comics expo, and an unbelievable line up of guests headlined by novelist Tom Clancy and comic artist ToddMcFarlane, Dragon Con moved to the Atlanta Hilton and Towers, which would become Dragon Con’s home for the next seven years. In fact, attendancedoubled again, to 4,800 people.
Dragon Con was on a roll. Attendance was growing, and the ambition of becoming the convention that offered something for everyone was coming together.

Sure, comics, anime, and other nerd hobbies were cool, and those activities all had their own shows… so what about games? From that idea spawned a small 4,500 person event in Bellevue, Washington, focused on the culture and community that is gaming.
Since then, the show hasn’t looked back. Doubling in size each year until venue capacities were reached, in 2010 the show expanded into Boston for PAX East, drawing tens of thousands of attendees in the inaugural year. We'll be opening at 6pm for a solid 4 hours of digital entertainment in a fun and family friendly environment. There will be games that everyone can play from retro classics like Pac-Man, Space Invaders and Tetris through to modern examples like Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360. It's a great chance for kids and parents to come together, share experiences, compete against each other andtalk, talk, talk about how technology and gaming have changed over the years.
A great event for all the family - kids young and old!!
The Pac Lunch shop will be open offering tea, coffee, cold drinks, chocolate, crisps and cereal bars to provide energising sustenance!
Under 5's go free.
