NVIDIA demo Tegra & Atom video playback: Intel should be worried

Nuotrauka

While the Atom notebook draws 12 watts to play its video, the Tegra system requires only 1.3 watts for playing back high-definition footage. Impressive stuff, especially since Tegra is one-tenth of the size! In the video below, a Tegra-based mobile device outputs 720p video onto a big-screen TV via HDMI.

The comparison comes as preliminary benchmarking for the Atom CPU is released. PC Pro tested an ASUS Eee with the processor, and found that it performed “pretty similar” to the previous Celeron Eee. Running Vista, which is a chore no ultraportable should be asked to take on, simultaneously opening Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint took the Eee in excess of 20 minutes.

Intel niekaip neatsako isvis kazkaip.

ARM server chips taking on Intel with 480 core clusters

Nuotrauka

Microsoft isn’t the only company looking to many lower-powered chips to replace a few high-powered CPUs in modern servers; ARM’s first server processor has been detailed by Calxeda, a quad-core chip squeezing up to 480 cores in a 2U chassis. According to Computer World, the new ARM processors will be based on Cortex A9 cores – the same family as used in NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 – and have an onboard interconnect fabric for communication between the nodes.

When paired with RAM, each ARM node should consume 5W of power under load. 120 nodes could fit into a 2U box, for a total of 480 cores, and Calxeda is working on the necessary software layer so that developers can recreate server apps that will run on ARM chips.

Exact processor specs, including clock speed and availability, are yet to be confirmed. Calxeda – under the name Smooth-Stone – secured $48m in funding back in August last year. AMD is believed to be readying its own server range, using its Bobcat APU chips.

Sony zvilgsnis i netolima ateiti:

A design concept for Sony called PS Squared created by industrial designer Hirotaka Matsui, takes on a sleek and angular form. The device looks to be a small-sized tablet featuring a slide out QWERTY keyboard with raised buttons, a thin LCD screen, and PlayStation style D-pad buttons. The design was used in a video by Freescale Semiconductors to illustrate the future possibilities of smart mobile devices and how they can be integrated into all facets of our daily lives.

From the concept pictures and video the PS Squared would feature an ARM processor core and support an Android, Linux, or Windows Embedded CE OS. The screen looks like it can tilt with the keyboard sliding behind the device when not needed. It also looks like there is an SD Card slot as well as USB slot. With the device in portrait mode, the bottom bezel shows a Bluetooth, mail, Wi-Fi, volume, and battery symbols. There is also an additional docking station that performs induction charging rather than plugging something in because the traditional method “causes damage to the port in a long term.” The dock has touch sensitive buttons to control your media on the device, as well as a remote with the same buttons.

The dock would let you sync with your computer or TV to stream music, movies, or 3D games between the devices as well as transfer documents. The video shows that the PS Squared could also control your security alarm systems and act as a remote for many of your other devices. This device is aiming to integrate into a technology ecosystem that supports our daily priorities such as social networking, light gaming, entertainment, and work.

Samsung's Central Station wireless monitor appears in Europe as SyncMaster C27A750

Nuotrauka

Back when we first laid eyes on Samsung's Central Station, we were excited by its wireless docking capabilities, and now it looks like the company's ready to let the monitor loose on European soil, albeit with a decidedly less American moniker. The SyncMaster C27A750, a 27-inch affair, uses Ultra Wide Band (UWB) technology via a USB dongle to connect to your laptop. It touts a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and sports HDMI, VGA, and USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports. The new SyncMaster will hit Europe by the end of April for about €600, but we've yet to hear anything about Central Station's ETA -- very sneaky, Samsung... very sneaky.

Nicenicenice belekaip! :P

MSI Rolls Out Ultra Slim X370 Laptop

Nuotrauka

Thin is in, playa, and everywhere you turn someone's touting an ultra-slim notebook. That includes MSI, which just announced its new X370 laptop with a super thin profile and long 10-hour battery life. This thing measures a scant 324 (W) x 227 (D) x 22.8 (H) millimeters, or for those of you who shake an angry fist at the metric system, that's roughly 12.76 x 8.94 x 0.89 inches. With battery, the X370 weighs just 1.4kg (3.08 pounds).

Not bad for a Windows-based, 13.4-inch notebook that dances the line between a netbook and a full-sized notebook. Powering the X370 is AMD's dual-core E350 processor (1.6GHz, 1MB cache) along with:

Single DDR3 slot

320GB/500GB/640GB hard drive

AMD Radeon HD 6310 graphics

Two USB 2.0 ports

Media card reader

SRS PC sound

802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Gluetooth v2.1 + EDR, Gigabit LAN

1.3MB webcam

4-cell battery

Despite a lowly 4-cell battery, MSI claims up to 10 hours of run time. How so? For starters, the AMD E350 chip sips just 18W of power. Add to that MSI's ECO Engine power management system, which lets users select from up to five power management levels -- Video Game, Film, Presentation, Word Processing, and Turbo Battery -- and together MSI says the X370 will stay up and running for a very long time.

Other features include a mult-touch touchpad, chiclet keyboard, and MSI's exclusive EasyFace 2.0 face identification software.

No word yet on price or availability.

naujas lapas su nauju AMD APU cipu. super taupus ir pakankamai galingas rodyt HD video, bei palaiko DX11.

3DxWare 10 lets 3D mice work in 2D apps, leaves your standard mouse feeling a bit flat

Your standard mouse may do it on the table, but 3D mice do it with extra dimension -- some of the time, anyway. Quit 3ds Max and suddenly you have one axis too many on your hands. After all, the vast majority of applications are 2D to match mice that may exist in a 3D reality but are limited to a decidedly dual-dimensional existence. No more. 3Dconnexion, makers of a couple different controllers with depth, has released 3DxWare, a Mac or Windows driver that enables exciting 3D mice to work with boring 2D apps. The first video after the break shows some one-handed zooming and browsing, while the second has you cutting and mixing in Final Cut Pro -- again with nary a keyboard or controller in sight. The software is free if you have a compatible mouse, but if not you'll be paying between $99 and $399 for a suitably compliant critter.

Panasonic's first rewriteable 100GB BD-RE XL discs launch later this month

Nuotrauka

For those stuck between the flexibility of HDD storage and the archiving ease of BDXLs Panasonic is finally ready to bridge the gap with its new triple layer BD-RE XL discs, set to arrive April 15th in Japan. Being the first rewriteable BDXL is the LM-BE100J's claim to fame, which works out since the 10,000 yen ($118 US) asking price means buying two is probably out of the question. The latest burners from Pioneer and Buffalo already support the new discs, owners of other hardware may want to double check their spec sheets before ordering.

uz tokia kaina kodel tiesiog neisigyt isorinio HDD.ten nei nieks nesusibraizys. ir pasileist galima ant bet ko. o cia tik ant specialiu BDrom dar.

Nuotrauka

The 32- and 42-inch versions of Vizio's E3D series HDTVs are now listed for preorder on Amazon at $499 and $699 just as our tipster indicated. The E3D320VX and E3D420VX are currently expected to ship in 3-5 weeks, which should also allow buyers interested in the new FPR-based Theater 3D technology to be among the first pick one up without heading to Walmart. Of course you still can if you want to, a 48-pack of paper towels should go well with your new 3DTV and its dual-sided QWERTY remote.
