Today MuscleNerd has announced some new progress on the iPhone 4 unlock project for basebands 2.10.04 / 3.10.01, the news are related to the iPhone 4 NCK unlock which they are now concentrated to crack the NCK's 40 bit code. MuscleNerd has confirmed via his Twitter account that he finally got the SecZone dumper working.

What is the SecZone?

This is the area in the baseband where the lock state is stored.

What is NCK Brute Force?

This is a theoretical exploit which involves brute forcing the NCK from the seczone the CHIPID and the NORID. So far no one has made public an instance of NCK discovery using this theoretical approach.

MuscleNerd mentioned that the iPhone 4's SecZone is very different and difficult than the one of iPhone 2G / 3G / 3GS. Today's progress is definitely a new milestone. Now dev-team is working on capture the official NCK code and finally capturing after SecZone then work out an offline BF flow

so the idea is: capture (a) before-seczone, ( official NCK code © after-seczone. Then work out an offline BF flow

after those steps a,b,c, then get back to the SW-based hacked unlock (and revisit BF results when they're done)

On the other hand, you have to know that there is another hardware solution for unlocking iPhone 4 basebands 2.10.04 / 3.10.01 with Gevey SIM.

Unlock iPhone 4 without Gevey SIM?

As we know GEVEY SIM is an unlock hardware tool which able to unlock iPhone 4 running iOS 4.2.1, 4.2, 4.1, 4.0 and 4.2.1 basebands 3.10.01, 2.10.04, 1.59.00. But Gevey SIM unlock for iPhone 4 basebands 2.10.04 / 3.10.01 / 4.10.01 is illegal according MuscleNerd, Now iPhone 4 can be unlocked without using GEVEY SIM. Dill Huang was able to unlock his iPhone 4 without using Gevey SIM. He has also created a video for proof.



As shown in video, DillADH inserts SIM A in his iPhone 4 and dials 112 and hangs up immediately (within 2 sec). He then toggles to Flight Mode and removes SIM A and Inserts SIM B and then Turns-off the Airplane Mode. The iPhone 4 on iOS 03.10.01 gets unlocked. Dill Huang posted the video just a proof of concept and you will not be able to do it because SIM B has test IMSI written on it. We will update you as we get more information stay tuned

More Details About iPhone 4.3.1 Unlock Emerge

Just to preface this before anyone gets the wrong idea; there is still no new baseband unlock available.

Now that the formalities are out of the way, I think it’s safe to tell you that new details have been revealed about the existing baseband unlock and its compatibility with the soon to be released untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.1.

Depending on when the jailbreak is actually released, if you rely on an unlock, you may have to wait a while until a new version of UltraSn0w is released. This is due to some compatibility issues between iOS 4.3.1 and the current version of UltraSn0w.

Fortunately, you won’t have to wait long, as the latest tweets from members of the iPhone Dev Team confirm…



Basically it goes like this: If you’re using an unlock, you’re most likely utilizing a version of UltraSn0w. The existing version of UltraSn0w doesn’t work with iOS 4.3.1, so it will need to be updated before you can use it.

Once this new version of UltraSn0w is released, all compatibility issues will be fixed, and you will be able to install it and resume using your unlocked iPhone.

iPhone Dev Team member MuscleNerd confirmed that the new version of UltraSn0w should be out soon after the jailbreak is released into the wild.

Again, just for clarification purposes, this update to UltraSn0w will not allow those on new basebands to unlock. If you can’t unlock with the current version of UltraSn0w, you won’t be able to use this one to unlock.

This update is needed to enable UltraSn0w unlocking on iOS 4.3.1 for existing unlock eligible devices.

New method to unlock iPhone 4! Costs $200!
Well well well, it seams like more rich people can unlock their AT&T locked iPhone 4 using this new method. Paddy has announced that they've unlocked AT&T locked iPhone 4. The method will cost you $200.

This guy has a contact at AT&T that will give you the official NCK-key unlock via Apple on iTunes. He'll give you IMEI and model to submit then connect to iTunes after 24 hours and you'll get unlocked iPhone 4. You can pay through PayPal, Western Union, Wire Transfer and etc.

In case you asking about it's legality, it's considered illegal due to having to call 112. We've received some confirmation that it successfully works. Also the well-known iPhone hacker Veeence has confirmed that it works on a new tweet today.

Gevey SIM Will Unlock iPhone 4 on iOS 5

Following the news that RedSn0w will jailbreak iOS 5, an unlock solution for the iPhone 4 on iOS 5 has also been uncovered. The Gevey SIM is a TurboSIM-like piggy back SIM card that will unlock iPhone 4 basebands.

On iOS 5, it appears that the Gevey SIM will still unlock the iPhone 4. Be warned: the Gevey SIM is technically illegal, so we do not recommend this method for unlocking the iPhone 4 on iOS 5.

A Redmond Pie reader sent in some screenshots of his iPhone 4 unlocked with the Gevey SIM.



As you can see, his baseband is 04.11.04. O, and did we mention that the Gevey SIM works without jailbreaking?

We have no confirmation of Gevey SIM baseband incompatibility on the iPhone 4 with iOS 5.
