‘AppSize’ Spills the Beans About Your iPhone App’s Age and Weight

If apps were women, they would loathe AppSize — a new jailbreak tweak that tells how much your apps weigh (size) and how old they are (installation date).

Fortunately, most of the apps I meet don’t care about this sort of thing.

AppSize is a free jailbreak tweak that’s available on Cydia for jailbroken iPhones, and it can be fairly handy for those of you with extremely tight restrictions on space.

While most iPhone 4 users likely have plenty of space to spare, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS users with only 8GBs of space will reap the most benefits from AppSize’s handy reporting.

What I particularly like about AppSize is the manner in which you invoke a report. A quick hold of the Home button followed up by a tap on the app in question causes a pop-up notification to divulge the app’s rap sheet.

The info provided includes the name of the app, the size of the app, and the app’s installation date.

Obviously, AppSize will only work on actual apps that are on your Home screen, meaning it won’t work with tweaks, shortcuts, or folders.



There are other reporting tools that perform similar functions available on Cydia, but most of them are a culmination of all of your apps in some sort of awkward list form.

AppSize, on the other hand, allows you to get a quick and dirty feel for the space that an individual app is taking up.
