BGR: iOS 4.3 GM Next Week, Build 8F190?

One of our Apple sources has just informed us that it looks like Apple has finalized the code for its upcoming iOS 4.3 release. The build, we’re told, is 8F190 for those keeping track.

At this point it seems clear that Apple will announce the availability of the GM build at next week’s media event, where the next-generation iPad will be unveiled as well. The iPad 2 is rumored to run an updated version of iOS 4.3 with FaceTime and Photo Booth enabled.

If you’ve been looking forward to some of the goodies contained in iOS 4.3 — Apple’s latest firmware for the iPhone and other devices — then no doubt this will be music to your ears.

It appears that iOS 4.3 has finally gone gold, meaning that the firmware has been tested and finalized.

This indicates that we could see iOS 4.3 released to the public in the very near future — next week, even…

What else does iOS 4.3 mean for iPhone users? For starters it brings mobile hotspot capabilities, something Verizon users are already enjoying with their updated 4.2.6 firmware.

Secondly, it brings improved AirPlay support for 3rd party apps. To me, the AirPlay support is the biggie in this release, because even though the jailbreak community has been able to circumvent some of these restrictions, it still isn’t as good as what Apple’s latest firmware brings to the table.

Just remember; do not jump the gun and update if you’re relying on a jailbreak or an unlock. You will need to wait until further instructions come out before updating you device, or else you will lose both your jailbreak and unlock if applicable.

Considering that Apple has an iPad 2 media event scheduled for next Wednesday, there’s no better time to reveal iOS 4.3 to the public, possibly releasing it the same day.

Exploit for Untethered iOS 4.3 Jailbreak To Be Released As Soon As Next Week?

iPhone security expert and hacker Stefan Esser believes that an untethered exploit for iOS 4.3 will drop after next weekend, that is after Apple has released iOS 4.3 to public.

Nuotrauka

I heard @securetips will release a iOS 4.3 untether exploit after next weekend. Follow him for news.

@bojill @securetips is an anonymous hacker who works for Apple, go figure…

For those of you who don’t know, Stefan Esser is the same person who recently found a new method, called antid0te which promised to jailbreak iOS devices with all the enhanced security mechanisms in place so that the jailbroken iOS devices are secured as much, or even more than the non-jailbroken ones. This new method was said to use ASLR (Address Space Layout Randomization) which has been absent from all the current iOS devices up to iOS 4.2.1, making them vulnerable to attacks such as the ones demonstrated at Pwn2Own contest.

As always, we will keep you updated ! Stay tuned for more.

Apple Seeds iOS 4.3 GM to Develepors

Nuotrauka

Apple has seeded the iOS 4.3 Golden Master to develepors. This timely release paves the way for 4.3′s public release next Friday.

Whenever a GM version of iOS is released, it means that it is nearly ready for deployment. This version of iOS will be made available for all iDevices, except for the CDMA iPhone 4.

Next Friday’s release of iOS 4.3 will only be available for the GSM (AT&T) iPhone. The Verizon iPhone runs on a different baseband, and requires its own update that Apple will hopefully push out soon.

As is the case will all developer builds, this 4.3 GM is intended for registered Apple develepors only. iOS 4.3 brings updates to AirPlay, and also adds Personal Hotspot functionality to the AT&T iPhone.

Don’t touch 4.3 yet if you jailbreak. There is currently no working jailbreak for iOS 4.3, but we’ll keep you posted on when one becomes available.

AT&T Will Officially Support iOS 4.3′s Personal Hotspot Feature

Nuotrauka

I think we all assumed that AT&T would support the iPhone’s Personal Hotspot feature that comes bundled with iOS 4.3, but its availability has been confirmed by an AT&T spokesperson.

As we informed you yesterday, iOS 4.3 will makes its way to the public on the same day that the iPad 2 is released.

AT&T spokesperson Seth Bloom has confirmed that the company’s Personal Hotspot support will go live once Apple makes iOS 4.3 available on March 11…

Unfortunately, using the Personal Hotspot feature will come at a price, as Bloom confirmed that ”…customers will need to subscribe to the DataPro 4GB/$45 tethering data plan.” That’s pretty comparable to what Verizon is charging to use the Hotspot feature.

That’s means it’s a whole lot of coin to be able to tether your laptop to your iPhone. If you’re a jailbreaker, I definitely recommend checking out MyWi on demand; it’s a bit pricey up front, but it’s only a one-time fee.

Will you be using the Personal Hotspot come March 11? Or will you be sticking with another solution?

Nu ką, dabar laukiam laukiam jailbreak 4.3 iOS'ui, ir šoksim ant jo. ;) Redagavo Moo

Apple iOS 4.3 GM Jailbreak With PwnageTool Released

Apple has just released the iOS 4.3 Golden Master to developers yesterday, this is still a beta version of the iOS 4.3 that is still bound to have its full release within a week. But before the iOS 4.3 Golden Master was able to go official, Dev- Team has already developed a Jailbreak. This Apple iOS 4.3 GM Jailbreak for the Phone 4 or 3GS, the iPad or the iPod touch, 3rd or 4th generation is now possible. This procedure of doing the Apple iOS 4.3 GM Jailbreak can be done with the use of PwnageTool released by Dev Team. This is still a very complex Jailbreak and is still also tethered. To try out the Apple iOS 4.3 GM Jailbreak using PwnageTool, please follow steps below.

The fact that the iOS 4.3 GM already has a jailbreak means there is a great chance that a jailbreak for the iPad 2 will be released.

OMG... :) Taip greit. :) Belieka sulaukti Windows versijos - ir mano gidas bus gidų skyriuje. :) Stay tuned. :)

Personal Hotspot Limited To 3 Devices on AT&T?

Nuotrauka

AT&T has confirmed it will offer the Personal Hotspot functionality starting March 11 with the release of iOS 4.3, but it looks like the functionality will be modified to work only with connections up to 3 devices. By default, Apple’s Personal Hotspot allows up to 5 devices to connect to a single iPhone sharing its 3G connection. A picture of an internal AT&T document posted by Engadget in fact suggests the carrier is going to restrict the usage of Personal Hotspot to only 3 incoming connections.

While it’s highly unlikely that you’ll end up letting 5 people connect to your iPhone on a daily basis, it’s still interesting to study the possibility of AT&T limiting a feature so heavily promoted by Apple. Guess carriers do have some kind of control on the iPhone, after all. (Personally, I’m just happy 3 Italia is going to keep Personal Hotspot free to use for every iPhone owner)

Update: the image shared by Engadget doesn’t specify whether or not AT&T is simply following Apple’s implementation of Personal Hotspot, which allows 3 devices to connect using WiFi. It’s not clear from the leaked photo if AT&T didn’t mention the additional Bluetooth and USB connections, or is really enforcing Personal Hotspot on 3 devices simultaneously.

From Apple’s website:

You can share your connection with up to five devices at once over Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB — with up to three of those connections using Wi-Fi.4 Every connection is password protected and secure. And it’s power friendly, too. iPhone detects when your Personal Hotspot is no longer in use and turns it off to save battery life.

Viskas ką reikia žinoti pie iOS 4.3. :)

iOS 4.3 All You Need to Know

Better Performance

In recent years, browser makers have found that optimizing the JavaScript engine is the best way to increase speed and performance when loading web pages on the desktop. We’re now starting to see these optimizations applied to the mobile browser.
In iOS 4.3, Apple has migrated its Nitro JavaScript engine from Safari 5.0 on the desktop to Safari for iOS. Apple says that these performance tweaks mean that JavaScript will run up to twice as fast in iOS 4.2. As more websites take advantage of JavaScript to provide interactive features and animations, a faster JavaScript engine should equal a more responsive web browsing experience.

iTunes Home Sharing

Apple didn’t announce the cloud-based media service many of us were hoping to see, but the company will be making it easier to access iTunes data from iOS devices.
iTunes for Windows and Mac has had the Home Sharing feature for quite some time. This feature makes it easy to stream media from one iTunes library to another. iOS 4.3 will bring that feature to the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.
Apps like Air Video [iTunes link] already offer a great way for users to access video content on their Mac or PC from an iOS device, but the iTunes Home Sharing feature will let users interact directly with iTunes.
That means that music, videos, podcasts and audio books can be streamed from a Mac or PC onto an iOS device across a shared network.

AirPlay Gets Better

Apple introduced AirPlay with the new Apple TV in October 2010 as a way to watch content from an iPhone or iPad on the big screen.
iOS 4.3 opens up AirPlay a bit and it now supports music, movies and photos. It also lets users stream videos recorded with the iPhone or iPad camera directly to the Apple TV.
What we’re really excited about is that more third-party apps can now take advantage of AirPlay and that websites can get in on the fun too. Increasingly we hope to see the AirPlay API open up more so that things like the Dark Knight movie app can make their way to our Apple TV devices.

Personal Hotspot (iPhone 4 Only)

The Verizon iPhone introduced a new feature that lets iPhone users share their 3G data connection with other devices via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or USB. This is a popular feature on Android 2.2 devices and one the iPhone can really benefit from having.
As we’ve reported before, Personal Hotspot isn’t a feature that is limited to the Verizon iPhone — other iPhone 4 units can utilize the feature too. Pricing and data caps will vary by carrier, but true hotspot sharing (as opposed to the previous tethering option) for up to five devices (three over Wi-Fi) is coming soon.

iPad Switch Options

My least favorite part of the iOS 4.2 update for iPad is the alteration of the side button, which now functions as a mute switch rather than an orientation lock. Double tapping, sliding to the right and hitting a button is just more complicated than flipping a switch. It’s fine on the iPhone — where the side button really does make sense as a mute switch — but on the iPad it’s an annoyance.
In a very un-Apple move, the company is giving users the option to have the side switch act as a mute switch or an orientation lock. We say un-Apple because the company tends not to go back on software design decisions and generally opposes creating multiple options for the same function.
In any event, we’re very happy Apple has made this a user choice. And while most users will be fine with the defaults, I know I will be happy to bring back to the side orientation lock function to my iPad.

Calm Before the Storm

iOS 4.3 might be lacking some of the spark that we’ve seen from previous Apple releases — but remember, Apple will likely unveil the next major version of iOS alongside the next iPhone this June.
In the interim, iOS 4.3 will give developers and users more functionality to an already solid OS.

Na manau puiki iOS iPhone 4'ui ir iPad'ui. :) Dar jai Mac'ą turi, be laido per iTunes sync'ini sau...

iOS 4.3 vs. iOS 4.2.1 Web Browsing Speed Test

With the iOS 4.3 Golden Master hitting dev’s iPhones and iPads the world over, we’ve all been wondering just how much faster Safari is now that the new JavaScript optimizations have been added. The answer? A bit.

Nuotrauka

Gizmodo did have a video showing the speed increase which unfortunately seems to have been pulled. We’ve imbedded it below just in case it re-appears but the general gist is this: don’t expect a night and day increase in speed.

In loading the NY Times website in Mobile Safari, the new iOS version shows a decreased loading time of a couple of seconds when compared to iOS 4.2.1. Not a massive difference, though any speed increase is obviously welcome!

Na visdėlto laimi laimi iOS 4.3 greičiu. Netgi 6.1s... :) OMG

iOS 4.3 Detects Previously Purchased Apps That Haven’t Been Installed

Nuotrauka

The new feature allows the App Store to scan your Apple account for previously purchased apps that aren’t installed on your device yet. In the App Store, applications that aren’t yet installed but have been purchased before, will show “INSTALL” next to them, instead of the app price.

If you’re like me, you’ve probably downloaded hundreds of apps from the App Store. So when you restore your iDevice due to some issues and sync it with a new computer, you will have to re-download all your apps from the app store, but sometimes you forget if you purchased certain apps before. The only way to find out if you’ve previously purchased a specific app, is to to download the app again and wait for the App Store display message, “You have already purchased this item. To download it again for free, select OK.”

Apparently, this new feature seems to only work on the iPad. Maybe the official public release of iOS 4.3 on March 11th will add the feature to iPhone and iPod devices as well.

What do you think?

Warning! Jailbreakers Should Hold off on March 11 iOS 4.3 Update

Nuotrauka

BigBoss posted on his blog yesterday that if you enjoy using jailbroken tweaks such as winterboard and sbsettings, hold off on the big March 11th update. It’s always a cardinal rule to wait for the new jailbreak before updating to Apple’s new firmware, this time he says, use extra precaution.

Apple will be using ASLR (Address Space Layout Randomization) in its new iOS , which BigBoss says will damage the way mobile substrate works. It looks like the 4.3 jailbreak is going to need a patched mobile substrate file. Mobile substrate is just a few dynamic libraries of code in your iPhone’s OS (like windows .dll files)…

It has multiple purposes, but what it’s generally used for is a fail safe. It’s what tells your “SpringBoard.app” to run in the event an application crashes. Otherwise you’d have to force reboot your iPhone. Applications crashing, with no code to call it back to the home screen, is why you see so many of your Android friends pulling their batteries out :(

So we thank BigBoss for the heads up, and urge you as well to avoid downloading Apple’s new 4.3 update this Friday. With previous beta versions of iOS 4.3 jailbroken, I don’t think it’ll be long after the big day before we see an official jailbreak with the mobile substrate fix.

As always, we will let you know as soon as that’s available. Has anyone updated to 4.3 GM and noticed issues with any of their jailbreak apps?

iOS 4.3 to Be Available at 10 PST Today?

Nuotrauka

According to Boy Genius Report, iOS 4.3 will be available today at 10AM PST. That’s a full three days before it was expected to be available, but the earlier the better if you ask me.

The folks at Apple said that it would be available on the day of the iPad’s 2 launch — March 11th, but I guess they decided it would be best to stagger the release date a bit.

One of the positive aspects regarding an early release is that this will give the jailbreak community even more time to jump on providing a jailbreak and solving the ASLR issues surrounding Apple’s latest firmware…

There’s also the issue of providing a long awaited unlock for the latest basebands that came courtesy of iOS 4.2.1. We know there are plenty of people, including some of us, that have been patiently waiting for quite some time.

Last but not least, it’s probably a good idea to heed the warning shots that come out alongside every new firmware release. If you care about your jailbreak, your unlock, or even the possibility of ever being able to unlock, then hold off on updating until a safe method is provided.

Nu ką, jai tikrai išleistų, tai ryt jau pamatytume savo iTunėse naujus update'us... :)

iOS 4.3 Benchmarks on iPad

So like everyone else in the Apple universe, we had to download the iOS 4.3 update today AS FAST as POSSIBLE, and you know good and well what the next step is: benchmarks! Thustly we whipped out our SunSpider Browser Benchmarking webpages and our cool Geekbench apps and we’re ready and more than excited to bring you the results. Would you like to know more?

Every time I type that “Would you like to know more?” I feel like I’m reenacting Starship Troopers. That said, we’ve got all the iPad 1 goodness you could ever want right here:

First we’ve got the SunSpider results. What this benchmark shows is core JavaScript performance based on a series of replicated real-world behaviors. When you see the results, note that lower is better:

iPad 1 with iOS 4.21: 8594.9

iPad 2 during iPad 2 release event: 2121.7

iPad 1 with iOS 4.3: 3240.8

So while we are seeing a MASSIVE improvement here, we’re not quite up to the level that iPad 2 will be releasing with. This is where Nitro engine shines. This is a very big deal as far as browsing goes, and it’s a massive step forward for iOS even before it gets cooking on iPad 2.

Then as for Geekbench, not a whole lot has changed. It’s gone down a tiny bit, but not enough to make a big impact on how your device will be cruising along. Geekbench is the opposite of SunSpider in that the resulting number is better as it is higher:

iPad 1 with iOS 4.21: 453

iPad 1 with iOS 4.3: 448

iOS 4.3 Brings iTunes Home Sharing

Nuotrauka

We announced earlier today that iOS 4.3 is now available to download. Among many of the new features highlighted by Steve Jobs and company during the iPad 2 announcement last week, was iTunes Home Sharing.

This will give you the ability to stream music from your iTunes library, to any iDevice in range of your WiFi. This is different than Remote, an iOS application by Apple, that lets you control iTunes playback on your computer with your iPhone. So what’s the advantage of iTunes Home Sharing? That’s easy….

Let’s say you have a nice home theater setup with an iPhone hookup. Home Sharing will allow you to stream ALL of your music from iTunes to your iPhone, which would then play through your home theatre. Instead of being limited to the 16GB or 32GB, you have access to all of your music.

It’s even super easy to setup. When in iTunes, click the ‘advanced’ tab at the top, and you will see the option to turn home sharing on. From your iPhone, you just go to your ‘Settings’ app, and select iPod. With the 4.3 update, you should now be able to turn on Home Sharing.

Apple Rolls Out “Like” & “Post” to Ping for iOS 4.3 iPod App

Nuotrauka

Announced yesterday but not enabled until a few hours ago, the iPod app on iOS 4.3 got two new features: you can now “like” songs and “post” them to Ping directly from the iPod app on iOS 4.3. We’re not sure right now whether this feature only works with tracks and albums purchased from the iTunes Store or music that matches the exact information stored in iTunes servers (try it with your Amazon MP3s, and let us know if it works), but as it stands now Apple has definitely updated the iPod app remotely to integrate the Ping functionality. It wasn’t there yesterday, and there it is now.

Nuotrauka

To like or post a song, Make sure to be signed into Ping from the iOS iTunes app. Open the iPod app, tap the artwork to bring up the top toolbar and check out the Ping icons. One is to like a song, one is to post it. Both will show up in your Ping activity stream, also accessible from the iOS iTunes app.

Naujiena ar ne, bet kam to reikia? <_<

In-App Purchases Require Password Reentry for iOS 4.3

Nuotrauka

According to the Washington Post, Apple iOS 4.3 included a change that requires users to re-enter their iTunes Store password in order to confirm in-app purchases, even if the user already entered their password to download the application. This could be Apple’s answer to all the questions they have received about concerns of children and others buying thousands of dollars of in-app purchases on games such as Capcom’s Smurfs’ Village.

The Cupertino company’s move affects users of its most recent operating system and comes amid growing concern by federal and state enforcement agencies that consumers, including children, were not adequately informed or aware that they were incurring charges on iTunes accounts because of a 15-minute period that allowed for purchases without a password. Apple said its new device software, iOS 4.3, made available Wednesday, will come with a feature that requires a password when purchases are made within an application after it is downloaded.

Nuotrauka

An Apple spokeswoman said that this change to iOS 4.3 should prevent people without knowledge from ‘accidentally’ buying in-app content.

We are proud to have industry-leading parental controls with iOS,” said Trudy Muller, a spokeswoman for Apple. She said users have always been able to use parental control setting and restrictions of in-app purchases to protect their iTunes accounts from accidental charges. “With iOS 4.3, in addition to a password being required to purchase an app on the App Store, a reentry of your password is now required when making an in-app purchase.

Please remember that that giving passwords to children, or anyone other than you, is considered a bad practice, especially now that they can re-enter them for in-app purchases without asking. Parents: next time you hand an iPad or iPhone to your kids just to “keep them happy and quiet”, think about the consequences; because you can’t blame Apple or any other tech company if your children break the bank.

:)). Redagavo Moo

Untethered Jailbreak To Be Delayed Until Apple Releases iOS 4.3.1 To Public

That untethered jailbreak demo that we posted about last night? Well it looks like the hacker behind the exploit is going to save it until Apple releases iOS 4.3.1.

Nuotrauka

Nuotrauka

i0n1c: With Apple already baking 4.3.1 the first one releasing an iOS 4.3 jailbreak will pretty much burn the exploit :)

i0n1c: Well Apple should release 4.3.1 very soon, because tomorrow everybody knows that @0xcharlie popped an iPhone 4 at #pwn2own through Safari.

Why you may ask? At Pwn2Own contest, iPhone 4 was hacked via vulnerability which was found in Mobile Safari running iOS 4.2.1. This vulnerability also exists in iOS 4.3 but all devices running the latest version of iOS are safe until hackers find a way to bypass the ASLR (Address Space Layout Randomization) which Apple has implemented for all supported devices starting from iOS 4.3.

Nuotrauka

In an interview, winners of Pwn2Own told ZDNet that bypassing ASLR security in iOS 4.3 is harder to do then what most think it is.

If you update your iPhone today, the vulnerability is still there, but the exploit won’t work. I’d have to bypass DEP and ASLR for this exploit to work.

As of 4.3, because of the new ASLR, it will be much harder.

According to Charlie Miller, the winner of this years’ Pwn2Own contest, Apple has been informed about the vulnerability and they are going to fix it in the next update.

Nuotrauka

@0xcharlie: Me and @dionthegod won pwn2own for iPhone, yippee. Apple already has the vulnerability information and will patch soon.

So is iOS 4.3.1 release imminent? Not anytime soon I think. Since the exploit mentioned above in iOS 4.3 requires ASLR to be bypassed, I don’t think Apple will be worried too much. Or not until someone figures out a way to bypass ASLR and makes the technique public.

Hahaahah... :) Va taip reikia Hackint! :) Dabar Unlock'ą tegu padaro, tai išvis nuostabu bus. :)
