Aprašymas

Overview

Officially announced at the Tokyo Game Show 2010, The ICO and Shadow of the Colossus Collection is a PlayStation 3-exclusive re-release of the classic PlayStation 2 games Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. Both games are on one Blu-ray Disc, and feature full 1080p HD remastering (including a smoother frame rate), 3DTV support, and Trophies. Also, the box contains a PlayStation Network voucher for a dynamic XMB-theme and video content from Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and the upcoming The Last Guardian (the video features are on the disc in the US version).

Gameplay Differences

The HD versions are based on the European release which means that the games contain additional features not present in the original North American version on the PS2. Alongside the different artwork, the Ico remastering contains altered puzzles from the original release. It also includes the ability for players upon completing the game to allow them to restart and see the English translation of Yorda's speech and make use of the two-player mode that was not included in the original American release of the game on the PS2.

Shadow of the Colossus meanwhile has a slightly different ending as well as some small tweaks to the gameplay. The gameplay changes are that the stamina system depletes slightly faster than on the PS2 and so climbing is more difficult and the player is move easily knocked off their balance or tossed around whilst on top of a Colossus. The game's framerate is also slowed down upon defeating a Colossus for several seconds as the player strikes the killing blow rather than immediately transitioning to the death animation as it did on the PS2 release.

Release

The collection was initially due to be out in Spring of 2011, but in April, Team Ico announced that the HD collection along with their current game, The Last Guardian, would be delayed. A Japanese trailer was released in the run up to E3 2011 stating a Japanese release date of September 22nd 2011. In Japan, the games are released separately on disc, while also being made available in a "Limited Box" which also includes an art booklet and a code for downloadable content. Sony's US and European PlayStation blogs confirmed the game's final release date as September 27th and 30th, respectively.

The rumors about Ico and Shadow of the Colossus coming to PlayStation 3 are true. First, Walmart had Ico and the Shadow of Colossus Collection in their database. Then there was a boxart leak this morning.

Now, we have confirmation from Famitsu. Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are listed in the latest issue’s table of contents as PlayStation 3 games. There’s supposedly information about The Last Guardian (aka Trico in Japan), but scans have not been released on the internet at this time.

Update: In Japan, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus will be released separately. Both games have been improved with HD quality visuals. Release dates have not been announced.

Fumito Ueda Talks ICO and Shadow of the Colossus with Famitsu

Nuotrauka

Sony had a number of surprises in its Tokyo Game Show booth yesterday, but perhaps none were as welcome as Fumito Ueda's announcement that Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are coming to PlayStation 3. Following Sony's afternoon press briefing, Famitsu.com was able to sit down with Ueda and discuss the two remakes.

Ueda told the site that he's overlooking the whole of the ICO and Wander projects as "supervisor." Every week, he'll receive updates, and he's checking these. The remakes are being handled by an "extremely excellent" development company, he said, although he did not share the name.

In terms of actual content, the remakes will be the same as the PlayStation 2 versions. For the original PS2 ICO, he noted, there were actually two distinct versions -- the Japanese and European version, and the American version. The PS3 version is based off the former, the Japanese and European version.

Famitsu asked specifically about frame rate. "ICO will remain 30 frames per second," Ueda replied. "Even if we were able to do 60 frames, we wouldn't change it." The Last Guardian is also meant to be 30 frames per second, he said. Areas where the PS2 version dropped frames will remain 30 in the PS3 version.

Outside of the announcement, the big news regarding Ico and Shadow is that they will be 3D compatible. Asked about this area of the games, Ueda expressed surprise with the amount of control one has in adjusting the 3D effects -- how far you can make things fly out, how far you can make things go into the screen, and where you can place the focus. "ICO's 3D is good, but when Shadow of the Colossus becomes 3D, its true power really emerges."

Here in Japan, the two games will be released separately, Ueda confirmed with the site. He would not share specifics about time frame.

Hands-on: Ico/Shadow of the Colossus Collection

Gaming has been caught in a perilous struggle to be regarded as an art form. Art is meant to move people in ways one cannot understand, invoke strong feelings of affection to a subconscious level, and to deliver an experience that cannot be recreated. Not all games can deliver such an experience, but Fumito Ueda’s Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are among those life changing games.

The two games may not share much in common when it comes to overall game premise, but the emotion that each conveys remains unmatched in the modern era. These two titles evolved the gaming industry, delivered an eye-opener to the gaming world, and forever changed the way games can be perceived and how games can tell a story. Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are forms of art in the purest form and now a new age of gamers can experience the titles in glorious HD – with 3D support – and experience two epic gaming tales that will forever change your view on what a video game can deliver emotionally and spiritually as you partake on these two grand adventures.

The Ico/Shadow of the Colossus Collection was officially announced earlier this year for the PS3 and gamers were ecstatic over the announcement. Gaining enhanced visuals, trophy support, and 3D graphical effects, there are a lot of new features being added to the game to ensure the collection delivers the definitive form of each classic title but, at the core, the two games are identical to the way you have remembered them over the years. Nearly a decade has passed since Ico was first released and just over five years have since Shadow of the Colossus saw release, but, even after all these years, picking up the controller and jumping back into the two games felt natural and fresh when we got the controller in hand at a Sony preview event in NYC last week.

The biggest appeal of the two games will without a doubt be the enhanced HD visuals and that’s for good reason – the games look great. Everything has been improved upon with smoother textures and more detailed character models resulting in one fine looking re-mastered compilation. Serving as the third HD re-mastered release for the PS3, Ico/Shadow of the Colossus Collection offers more than just HD visuals, it also has 3D visual effects in place and these are something that really work well with the two games and can offer a surreal experience that will be hard to match. The use of the 3D in Ico is used well and works well with atmosphere, but Shadow of the Colossus is the title that really defines the use of 3D in a way that that makes the experience all the more epic.

Shadow of the Colossus is game built on the idea of delivering a grand, open world, epic adventure. Seeing the world of Shadow of the Colossus unfold in 3D is unlike anything you’ve ever seen in a game before and it will make you a believer in 3D gaming. The combination of HD visuals and 3D graphical effects allow you to appreciate the finer details of the surrounding world, especially the little details on the colossus like fur or armor. The sense of scale and vastness is so greatly augmented while in 3D that you’ll feel puny and insignificant as you ride alongside the colossus. There’s no denying that 3D is used in the game remarkably well and it’ll be one of the leading Sony titles of early-2011 to utilize the technology.

Graphical wonder aside, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus controls and plays remarkably well even after all these years. Controlling just as the titles did before on the PS2, you’ll be able to pick up the controller and begin your quest without concern. Everything in the game flowed well, animations were fluid, and the framerate was very smooth. Even in this brief demo with the two titles, it was easy to get sucked into the ambiance and awe of the two games thanks to the increased visuals.

Ico/Shadow of the Colossus Collection is currently slated for a spring 2011 release date – no exact date has been revealed at this time. There isn’t much to say negative about our time with the collection, each game retains the greatness they held back when they originally released in the early to mid-2000s. Without question, this collection will be a must-own.

Team Ico Collection - Shadow of the Colossus: The perfect 3D game?

The question you almost certainly mutter to yourself when you encounter the first of the titular titans in Shadow Of The Colossus: "How on Earth am I supposed to get up there?"

As young Wander, you have been tasked with felling 16 behemoths that inhabit a vast wasteland, aided by your trusty steed Agro and armed with an enchanted sword and a bow.

That's all well and good. But first, you've got to clamber onto each creature and locate its weak point. Up there. And how on Earth are you supposed to do that?

It's a question SOTC first-timers have asked themselves again and again over the six years since the game's original release on PS2. But now, in glorious 3D, the distance between you and the colossi's heads seems further than ever.

Shadow Of The Colossus has been lovingly rendered as an HD experience and will be released along with Ico as a double-pack this spring.

It looks stunning with or without the glasses - but especially with. Every rampart on the beasts' armour, every clump of fur on their backs, every nobble on their bodies pops out of the screen, but in the subtlest way. The depth of field is astonishing yet totally natural.

Plunge your sword into a monster's glowing sigil and blood spurts in thick plumes towards the screen, as the wounded colossus flails this way and that in an effort to throw you off.

And as they fall - hard - they throw up dirt and debris that flits into the foreground without ever trying to poke you in the eye.

The game was of course originally made in the 2D era, and the very fact that it refrains from unnecessary 3D tricks makes it all the more immersive.

TRIPLE VISION

Riding across the plains of the forbidden land, with its ruinous mountains and silent caves, offers breathtaking scale - though the effect is deflated slightly by the fact that Agro appears to be floating millimetres above the ground.

Another 3D side effect is that timing jumps becomes that much trickier, especially when trying to grab a thin piece of cloth hanging from the bum of the fourth colossus. But these glitches are far from game breakers.

The 2D is great, too (which, let's face it, is how most of us will be playing). The sometimes murky low-res textures of the original have been upscaled and reborn in luminescent, solid, full-frame splendour that stands up to early PS3 graphics at the very least.

The gameplay itself - thankfully - remains exactly the same. "Ico and SOTC are basically faithful to the original games," director Fumito Ueda says when asked what's new.

    • Right now, ARC Raiders has that pre-update feeling where every run matters a bit more than usual. With Riven Tides getting close, loads of players are pushing trials hard, stacking XP, and trying not to waste a single decent drop. Some are even looking for faster ways to buy Raider Tokens so they can head into the next patch better prepared. Fair enough, honestly. This week's trial list isn't impossible, but it does ask for a bit of planning, and a couple of tasks can go sideways fast if you treat them like standard checklist stuff. Lightning Touch This one sounds silly until you try it and get flattened. To finish Lightning Touch, you need to be in the Marshlands during an Electromagnetic Storm and live through a direct lightning hit. That last part is where most runs fall apart. You can't just sprint around in open water and hope for the best. You need enough health, some defensive setup, and a route that doesn't leave you exposed to everything else on the map. The storm itself is already messy. Add enemy pressure and bad footing, and it turns into chaos. Still, when it finally works, you'll know. There's that split second where you think you're done, then somehow you're still standing. Swamp Sweep and Resource Extraction Swamp Sweep is more grounded, but it can drag if you go in with the wrong loadout. The ARC units in the marshy parts of the Dam Battlegrounds are annoying to spot, and the terrain slows you down just enough to make every fight feel awkward. A solid mid-range weapon helps more than people think. You don't want to be too close in that mud, and long-range isn't always practical with all the clutter. Then there's Resource Extraction, which is probably the most stressful of the bunch. Calling in high-value air drops sounds simple on paper. In practice, it's a giant signal flare saying, come fight me. If you're solo, set traps early and keep moving between bits of cover. If you've got a squad, one person watching the flanks makes a huge difference. Comet Destruction Comet Destruction is the trial that wastes the most time if you're unlucky. The Comet ARC units don't exactly line up for you. They move, they disappear, and if your damage is weak, the fight gets drawn out fast. Burst damage is the safe play here. A sniper works, sure, but anything that lets you hit hard before they reposition is worth bringing. It's also one of those jobs where patience matters more than aggression. A lot of players rush the chase and end up burning resources for nothing. Better to track carefully, get your angle, and commit when you know you can finish it cleanly. Why this week matters That's really why these trials matter more than they might've a month ago. Riven Tides is close enough now that every bit of progress feels useful, whether that's gear, XP, or just learning how to handle rougher encounters under pressure. If you're trying to go into the update with a stronger setup, it makes sense to squeeze this week for all it's worth, and plenty of players also keep U4GM in mind for game currency and item support when they want to save time and stay ready for the next grind.
    • Diamond Dynasty feels a bit frantic right now. That big April 10 update dumped a ton on everyone, and this weekend is where most players either catch up or fall behind. If you're still short on progress, now's the time to lock in. Some people are grinding every spare inning, others are cleaning out the market, and a lot of us are doing both. As a professional platform for in-game currency and items, u4gm is known for being convenient and reliable, and you can buy MLB The Show 26 stubs in u4gm if you want a smoother ride while putting the rest of your squad together. XP choices that actually matter The 2nd Inning program is the main pressure point, no question. You can feel it every time you load in. People are chasing those last chunks of XP and trying to decide which boss makes more sense. Randy Johnson or Babe Ruth has become one of those debates that won't die, and honestly, I get why. Early in the year, an elite starter can carry you through a lot of rough games, so Randy has real value. Then again, Babe is Babe. One swing changes a game, and power cards tend to stay useful for a long time. If you're still working missions, don't ignore that 91 OVR Carlos Correa card. His swing plays better than some people expected, and he's one of those cards that quietly helps you stack stats without forcing your lineup into something awkward. Weekend Classic cards and the market shift The other big story is the Weekend Classic ending on Tuesday, April 14. That's where the market gets interesting. Reward cards like 92 OVR Victor Martinez and 92 OVR Bernie Williams are sitting in that familiar spot where supply still exists, but not for much longer. Once the event closes, no fresh cards are coming in. That's usually when prices start creeping, then jump when people realise they waited too long. If one of those guys is part of your long-term lineup, buying before the cutoff makes sense. If you're holding extras, this is the part where patience matters. A lot of experienced players wait for the first wave of post-event panic and then sell into it. Why selling now might be the smart move The April Spotlight Drop 2 market has calmed down enough that you can make clean decisions without guessing every ten minutes. That matters. This is a good window to go through your binder and be honest about what you're actually using. If a card isn't making your Ranked squad, isn't helping with missions, and isn't tied to a collection you care about right now, it's probably worth moving. Plenty of players hang onto too much fluff and then get caught short when the next content wave lands. Building up a stub balance before another mid-April release is just smart roster management. It gives you room to react instead of scrambling. Getting ready for the next reset So the plan for the next couple of days is pretty simple. Finish the XP grind, make a real decision on your boss pick, use the cards that speed up mission progress, and don't let event rewards sit in your binder without a purpose. This part of the cycle always feels messy, but that's also where sharp players get ahead. A little prep now saves a lot of regret later, and if you need a reliable place many players already know for game currency and item support, U4GM is often part of that conversation while people get themselves ready for the next drop.
    • The Fairytale Partners event lands on April 14, 2026 at 1:00 PM UTC, and if you've been sitting on a pile of dice waiting for something worth burning them on, this is probably it. The event only runs until April 19, so there's not much room to drift through the first day and “figure it out later.” If you're already planning your sticker progress too, plenty of players also keep an eye on places to buy Monopoly Go Stickers while they push event rewards, since this kind of five-day sprint can line up nicely with album goals. Just make sure your account has reached board level 5 before you try to join, because that tiny requirement still catches people every single time. How the event actually works If you've played a partner event before, you'll settle in fast. You team up with four partners and work on four separate fairytale-themed builds. Progress comes from event tokens, and those tokens mostly come from daily milestones, banner events, and tournaments. Once you've got enough, you spin the partner wheel and hope the game feels generous for once. Sometimes it does. Sometimes it absolutely doesn't. That's the part nobody can control. What you can control is how often you're active, when you roll, and whether you're wasting dice chasing low-value rewards when a stronger tournament window is right around the corner. Pick people who'll actually play This is where runs usually fall apart. A lot of players rush their invites, fill empty slots with randoms, and then spend the next four days carrying dead weight. It sounds obvious, but don't partner with anyone unless you trust them to log in and contribute. Friends are best. An active Discord group works too. You want people who respond, not people who vanish after the first few spins. A balanced team matters more than lucky wheel drops. If each person handles their share, the event feels manageable. If one or two players go missing, it turns into a dice sink fast, and that's usually when frustration kicks in. One build first, then move on A smart way to approach this is to finish one landmark before spreading tokens across the whole board. A lot of players split progress too early because they want to see movement everywhere. It looks nice, sure, but it slows down the rewards that could actually help you. Completing one build gets milestone prizes back into your account sooner, and that often means extra dice you can push straight into the next tournament cycle. That little boost matters more than people think. You'll also get a clearer read on which partner is pulling their weight and which one might need a nudge before the event gets deep. Why the grind is still worth it The main reason people go hard in these events is simple: the full clear reward is stacked. If your team finishes all four landmarks, you're looking at 5,000 dice, a guaranteed 5-star sticker pack, and limited cosmetics that usually disappear once the event ends. That's a strong return for five days of focused play. It's still a grind, no question, and the wheel can be cruel at the worst time. Even so, good planning makes a huge difference, and a lot of regular players keep tools like RSVSR on their radar for game-item support while they prep for heavy events like this, especially when every roll and reward starts to matter a bit more than usual.
