A month long festival celebrating the wide reaching influence Japan has had on computing and gaming - from the consoles of Nintendo, Sony and Sega to the computers of Fujitsu, Epson and MSX - and not forgetting the games of Capcom, Taito and Bandai.

24th May: Rhythm Games - To get us in the mood, we'll start with a night of rhythm and music games with a Japanese theme - from Donkey Konga to Samba de Amigo (and many more!)
25th May: Retro Festival Japan - A chance to see the wide range of Japanese machines in our collection and from other collectors.
14th June: Retro Games Night - Japan! - All the best Japanese computers, consoles and games.
On normal museum opening days throughout the festival, we will have extra Japanese systems on display.

All our usual gaming displays will be on andwe'll be getting loads of extra consoles and games, and peripherals out from our archive for you to play. Join us for a great night out and help support the work of the Centre!
We will have a fully licensed bar courtesy of Lord Conrad's Brewery!
Please feel free on the night to order any food you want for delivery to the museum. We can recommend using Deliveroo!
All we kindly ask is that you use the tables provided in the foyer to eat and please use the napkins and handwash provided to keep things (and yourselves!) nice and tidy. Please do not eat food whilst playing games.
Spaces for this exciting gamingnight are limited, so booking is required to ensure your place, although if you're lucky you *may* get in on the night. (tickets on the door will be £2 extra)

We're going to hold a special Retro Festival weekend as part of our 'Made in Japan' event. We'll be showing a wide range of Japanese computers, console and handhelds from our archive - many of whichwere never sold in this country - from manufacturers such as Fujitsu, Bandai, Sharp, Sony, Sega and NEC.
We're also inviting Japanese computer and games enthusiasts and collectors to come show off their systems and software and to be on hand to tell you more about these rare and unusual machines.

Norwich Games Festival started life as Retro Arcade in 2012, as a way of offering something free, interactive and unique to young people and families during the Easter holidays.

Video games have progressed from simple black and white pixelated play to immersive epics that rival any blockbuster movie. But how did this happen?
During this special museum tour, our in-house gaming expertswill guide you through the history of video games from the seventies to the modern day.
The tour lasts around 30 minutes and provides an opportunity to discuss and even argue the merits and weaknesses of your favourite consoles and games!
The tour is free (although museum entry charges apply - £9 for adults, £6 for children, £7 for concessions and students, and £26 for a family ticket of two adults and two children). Museum staff will be on hand after the tour to locate specific games that you want to play from our archive of over 9000 games.
The tour starts at 2:00pm. Booking is not required but will ensure your place on the tour.
Tea, coffee and snacks will be available from our Pac Lunch Shop.
Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
