Apie žaidimą

Cars, motorcycles, monster trucks and more all race together through improvised tracks in an abandoned city destroyed by an earthquake, in the fourth instalment in the MotorStorm series.

Aprašymas

Overview

MotorStorm: Apocalypse is the fourth game in the Sony-exclusive MotorStorm franchise, returning to the PlayStation 3 after the previous game, MotorStorm: Arctic Edge, which was released for PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 2. It is built upon the engine used in the second instalment of the franchise, Pacific Rift, which was itself built upon the engine used in the original MotorStorm.

It features new gameplay mechanics such as character drivers with prologues and epilogues, nighttime races, NPC "factions" waging war during races, and more advanced vehicle customization - ranging from decals and paint work all the way up to actual vehicle performance upgrades earned with race winnings.

Pedestrians and non-racing vehicle also inhabit the tracks as hazards and obstacles that can be collided with.

Characters

In MotorStorm: Apocalypse, the career mode incorporates a story with the player being dropped into three different characters, each with their own personas, prologues, races and epilogues. Each character is used for '48 hours' of the festival offering a different viewpoint on the festival as it progresses.

  • Mash - "The Rookie": A newbie racer who snuck aboard the carrier to get to the Festival, Mash's campaign is considered the 'tutorial' of the game, providing a gentler introduction to the mechanics of MotorStorm.
  • Tyler - "The Pro": Already a skilled driver, and a former member of the ruined city's populace, Tyler offers an average challenge as far as difficulty goes, and is suitable for returning 'Stormers.
  • Big Dog - "The Veteren": The aging adrenaline junkie in charge of the MotorStorm festival, Big Dog is a grizzled racing vet who promises punishing challenges for skilled players.

Each of these characters has their own storyline as they all try to race in and escape from the city being torn apart by the Festival, the Earthquake, and the rival factions. Their stories overlap and run parallel throughout the 48 hours.

Two rival factions battle it out on the streets while you participate in racers. The first being the left over residents, madmen and crazies who refused to leave the city during the initial evacuation. The second is a private military security force called 'Dusklite' who was hired by the American government to take back the city from bands of crazies and chase out the MotorStorm racers so rebuilding can begin. These factions fight it out during the Festival, with high tech weaponry from the Dusklite side, and more basic methods such as wrecking balls and Molotov cocktails from the crazies -- with the "innocent" MotorStorm revellers caught in the middle.

Environment

This time the MotorStorm Festival moves inland and urban, taking place in a fictional location known as 'The City' which is inspired by areas on the west coast of America, specifically the 'Bay' area of California. Despite the urban setting the game remains about frantic destruction-racing over traditional street or drag-racing. With the pre-release catchphrase: Brutal Urban Off-road Racing.

Contrary to early speculation the game is not set in a Post-Apocalyptic environment, but rather a city ravaged by a natural disaster. In this case an earthquake which festival organizers catch wind of and decide to make this city the home of the next MotorStorm festival.

However this city is not quite as deserted as organizers assumed, and statements indicating two rival factions already occupying the ghost city and being unhappy with the 'Stormers presence there have been released, along with hints that "Mother Nature is not quite done yet." Indeed it is not, as the biggest earthquake ever recorded, referred to as the Big One, is slated to hit The City.

Gameplay

The core focus of MotorStorm has been kept in Apocalypse, with vehicle class-based "combat" and shortcuts in the environment triggered by destruction and exploration. Collapsing walls, skyscrapers, subways and sewers, vehicle pile ups, office blocks and giant bridges are just some of the environments for racers to traverse. The environment changes are consistent through the chronology of the storyline; for example a collapsed skyscraper in one race will remain fallen for the rest of the Festival, even if that track is revisited.

Multiplayer/Single Player Changes

Apocalypse features some vastly improved multiplayer features, including:

  • Sixteen player online multiplayer.
  • Four player split-screen.
  • Combinations of the two. Play with three friends in the living room against 12 more online.
  • Betting system.
  • Massive vehicle customization. Change vinyls, vehicle parts, vehicle shapes and more. Upload them to the community site and share them with others. They are identified by the vehicle used to create the, but work on all vehicle types, and include the creator's PSN ID.
  • Vehicle perk system similar to Blur. Modify handling, boosting and offensive abilities as you unlock new perks.
  • A wealth of rankings to progress through online with associated rewards and recognition.
  • Stacks of online rewards to earn and persistent progress giving the most determined and successful racers the status and recognition they deserve.
  • Persistent matchmaking. Keep your party together throughout your gaming session.
  • Game Mode Creator. From a completely blank canvas you can design your own game rules and victory conditions, play them online, and incorporate them into tournaments.
  • No more "rubber band AI".
  • Re-engineered camera system.
  • 5 New Vehicle Classes, including Supermini and Chopper.
  • 40 Single Player Races.

Ranking Chips and Betting

Players will unlock betting chips as they progress through the racing tiers. They can be earned through wrecking other racers, drift time, placing high, etc. as the main progression rank system. Players can take these chips and wager them in future races against another player to see if they can beat them. The wager is higher based on how skilled the other racer is. You will be able to cash these chips in to rank up if you win, or you can carry them forward immediately to boost the wager for the next race.

Rewards

Players will also be able to unlock medals, accolades, and other types of rewards. Based on what rank you earn, players can earn new parts, color schemes, and many other objects in order to customize their vehicle. This is the first MotorStorm that will allow full customization of how your vehicle will look.

Perks

MotorStorm: Apocalypse features a perk system for the very first time. Perks can be unlocked by earning chips from races. The perks are broken into three categories, Handling, Boost, and Combat:

Delay

Following the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan in March of 2011, MotorStorm: Apocalypse was officially delayed in all territories, and advertising on the game, which features a city destroyed by an earthquake, was greatly scaled back. Later, the European release date was announced to be on March 31st, with the United States date moved to May 3rd.

The French site PS3Gen claims to have gotten its hands on "stolen" images of MotorStorm 3, purporting to show the PS3-exclusive racer set in a San Francisco of collapsed buildings and raging fires.

Quite a departure from the series first three iterations, which set loose the fleet of cars, trucks and things that go in fragile ecosystems in the Utah desert, a Pacific island, and the Arctic. That appears to be a building mid-collapse. Another shows pedestrians scattering across your path, so maybe the game will feature courses that change or get blocked off, in addition to the myriad shortcuts it usually tosses up.

I gave the obligatory whats-up to SCEA but Sony's already given the refusal of comment on rumor and speculation to PS3Gen. Meantime, put your powers of keen observation to work. Does this pass the smell test? Are these images of another racer altogether?

nera jokio oficialaus patvitinimo taciau atrodo labai nieko.

The third PlayStation 3 entry in Evolution Studios' racing franchise MotorStorm is subtitled Apocalypse and will bring the off-road circuit to "The City" for "Brutal Urban Off-Road Racing," the developer announced today through the PlayStation Blog.

The crumbling city--inspired by California's Bay Area and mostly abandoned after an earthquake--will suffer additional permanent damage throughout the races, with future races reflecting that destruction. "This isn't post-apocalyptic," director Matt Southern explained. "It's apocalyptic. You are there when it happens. It's survival racing."

Among the sequel's bullet points are "massive vehicle customization," vehicle perks and "a game mode creator," plus a sixteen-person online multiplayer that can be experienced with up to four players per console thanks to split-screen multiplayer along with "cut-scenes that finally reveal what it's like to be a part of the MotorStorm subculture, to changes to handling and boosting, to the five completely new vehicle classes."

Not mentioned was a release date or window--we' should learn more next week at E3.

Motorstorm Apocalypse Hands-on

Citata

there's the game's ultimate enemy: the earthquake itself, which will tear down buildings, buckle bridges, and open up new areas as you're racing. While we didn't see all of the following during our play session, Evolution Studios says that you'll race on rooftops, through subways and sewers, and even down skyscrapers as they collapse around you. The world will also be persistent, so any damage that's inflicted in one race will remain in place for subsequent events. This means that the city slowly gets wiped out throughout the two-day event, until you're eventually forced to evacuate as it falls around you.

the game engine is based on the same base technology as Pacific Rift, but with some notable improvements to handle the destructible environment. Night racing and dynamic headlight effects are also included for the first time in the series. There will be much more vehicle customisation than before too, with vinyls, stickers, and paint jobs that can be bought from funds that you earn as you play. You can also buy performance upgrades for boost, handling, and combat, as well as body parts, shells, and completely new vehicles.

taigi pirma karta serijoj, naktis ir kazkiek dinamikos.be to zemes drebejimo griuvantys pastatai skamba labai gerai. ;)

Here are some of the headlines…

You May Have Heard…We’re Heading to the City!

But this is no ordinary city. In the same way that the first MotorStorm was set in Monument Valley, and MotorStorm Pacific Rift was set on ‘The Island’, inspired by Hawaii and other Pacific islands, we’ve set this MotorStorm in ‘The City’, inspired by the West Coast of America, and, in particular, the Bay Area of California.

MotorStorm’s brand of racing is not about ‘going urban’ though. We all know that the lunatic ‘Stormers would take every expectation about street racing and turn it upside-down. So this is what they’ve done. Welcome to Brutal Urban Off-Road Racing!

Post Apocalyptic? NO!

The city has been abandoned and somewhat damaged after a tremor. When the ‘Stormers find this out, they head straight in. Pretty soon, two things become clear: it isn’t completely empty and Mother Nature isn’t done yet!

Throughout the game the city will be ripped to pieces, in real-time, as you race. Routes will be affected, as will our emergent gameplay.

Buggies using collapsing walls as half-pipes. Big Rigs on the rooftops of skyscrapers as they collapse. Superbikes gunning into the basements of enormous rifts. Supercars flicking on their headlights to barrel through the subways and sewers. Multi-vehicle pile ups on giant bridges as they buckle and twist. Driving through someone’s office and smashing up their desks. It’s all there.

Two groups have also stayed behind, and neither takes too kindly to MotorStorm’s arrival. I’ll talk more about them another time, but for now I’ll say that when they realise there isn’t going to be much of a city left, they start to destroy it too.

This isn’t post-apocalyptic. It’s apocalyptic. You are there when it happens. It’s survival racing.

Variety, Chronology and Depth are King

We’ve listened to everything people said about our previous games and, as a result, one of our priorities is to make a more satifsying overall game experience. In our single-player mode, every race is unique. When a building comes down it stays down. When you race a track again, the buildings will still be down and the MotorStorm crew will have carved yet more routes into the ruined landscape. The only time you’ll see the same thing twice is when you choose to. Underscoring this chronology is the fact that you’ll get to see the game from three different viewpoints.

Nothing annoys me more than the notion that an accessible action racer must also be shallow or plain dumb. So once you have experienced the single-player journey, the true depth of our title will come to the fore. Our overhauled ‘Wreckreation’ mode has been heavily influenced by the best online titles: from shooters and action adventures, RPGs and platformers. It features:

* Sixteen player online multiplayer.

* Four player split-screen.

* Combinations of the two. Play with three friends in the living room against 12 more online.

* Massive vehicle customisation. Change vinyls, vehicle parts, vehicle shapes and more. Upload them to the community site and share them with others. They automatically work on all vehicle types, and include your PSN ID.

* Vehicle perks. Modify your handling, boosting and offensive abilities as you unlock new perks.

* A wealth of rankings to progess through online with associated rewards and recognition.

* Stacks of online rewards to earn and persistent progress giving the most determined and successful racers the status and recognition they deserve.

* Persistent matchmaking. Keep your party together throughout your gaming session.

* A Game Mode Creator. From a completely blank canvas you can design your own game rules and victory conditions, play them online, and incorporate them into tournaments.

Lots More

We’ve got a lot more to reveal too; things like replacing loading screens with cut-scenes that finally reveal what it’s like to be a part of the MotorStorm subculture, to changes to handling and boosting, to the five completely new vehicle classes making their way to this festival.

The end of the world…is just the beginning.

Sugalvos tu tais transportais ką nors, jie visada sugalvoja. Ant PS3 žaidžiau Pacific Rift, tai jėga. Pasidarai priešus su mocais arba ATV, o pats su fura varai "šluoji" visus.

Tas pats ir ant PS2 Arctic Edge.

Our cover art has been sent to shops and websites ready for pre-order. Once again we’ve got different boxes depending on where you live! I thought I’d share them here.

Here’s our European box. Our priority here is to show what is new in the game, and it slightly harks back to the box for MotorStorm 1. It is quite unusual for a racing game and we spent a long time working out what we thought would be right.

Nuotrauka

…and here’s the US version. It is much more of a ‘classic’ box and is based on an image we created in early 2010 that I absolutely love, which means I can’t decide which l like best…
