Street Fighter kūrėjas pasakoja apie savo idėją Mortal Kombat V.S. Street Fighter, ir kodėl taip neiįvyko...išties įdomus straipsniukas

Straipsnis
Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono has explained why Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat are unlikely bedfellows.

"I actually get a lot of requests for Street Fighter vs. Mortal Kombat on my Twitter feed and elsewhere," Ono told the US PlayStation blog.

"I understand why people want it, but it's easier said than done. Having Chun Li getting her spine ripped out, or Ryu's head bouncing off the floor... it doesn't necessarily match."

Fighting game fans have wondered about a Street Fighter Mortal Kombat crossover game for years.

In 2008 Mortal Kombat chief Ed Boon revealed he tried to make Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter happen but "ran into a road block".

Boon contacted Street Fighter publisher Capcom in the past to try and get Sub Zero and co facing off against Ryu and Ken.

"We made phone calls," he said. "But Capcom is in Japan, and with the distance, there's communication gaps and what not. It just never panned out. It would have been very cool. I'm a fan of the other fighting genres and stuff like that. I just thought it would be a cool novelty to have.

"I've always wanted to cross MK over since about MK4, or something like that. I'm a big fan of all of the other fighting games, Street Fighter, Tekken. I always thought, wouldn't it be cool to have MK vs. SF and MK vs. Tekken? We pursued some of those ideas to the extent we could but we always ran into some kind of road block and couldn't do it."

More likely, perhaps, is Marvel vs. DC, which Ono described as a "dream project".

It "would be pretty damned cool if we could ever pull it off," Ono said. "I'm a big comic-book fan. Now if I can get the presidents of those two companies in the same room shaking hands, then we could get something started. I'd love to see that just as a fan!"

Until then, crossover fighting game fans will have to make do with Street Fighter x Tekken, due out next year.

Capcom has confirmed plans to release a free, post-launch patch that adds a tournament support mode to upcoming fighting game Street Fighter x Tekken.

While Capcom is yet to finalise the details of what the mode will actually do, it is designed to alleviate fan concern over the controversial gem system - and how it will impact tournaments.

The gem system forces players to pick three gems to attach to their character. They come in two types: assist gems are always active and assist you in aspects of your game. Boost gems improve character attributes when they are activated.

The fighting game community has reacted strongly to the gem system, with some predicting it will grant an unfair advantage - an accusation Capcom denies.

Those in the tournament scene have their own set of concerns, including how the gem system will impact hosting matches.

"We know a lot of players are worried that with the gem system tournaments will be harder to run," Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono told Eurogamer.

"We know they take a lot of time. A lot of players were saying, 'I have to do button checks. Do I have to do a gem check now before a match?' With regards to that we plan to release a free post-launch tournament support mode."

Capcom hopes to release the tournament support mode as quickly as possible. "Hopefully it will alleviate a lot of the concerns the community has," Ono said.

The idea is that fighting game fans offer their thoughts on the tournament support mode so Capcom gets an idea of what to include in it. "Hopefully from that we'll get feedback from the community, and then we'll have a better direction of exactly what we should do with this mode," Ono added.

The game already includes a number of features designed to appeal to tournament players, including the ability to configure your buttons at the character select screen - long called for by fans.

Meanwhile, the enthusiastic Japanese developer was keen to stress that the gem system - 57 gems will be included on the disc with others supplied as pre-order bonuses - has been misunderstood by much of the fighting game community.

"In terms of DLC gems, we don't have any set plans on selling gems like this or like that," Ono said. "We're waiting to see what the user reaction is first, because we think a lot of users still don't understand the gem system completely.

"They're not power-up items. That's not how we see them. We put gems into the game which are default. As long as you have these default ones you'll be fine. If you want to get more gems down the road from the pre-order bonuses, you can definitely do that, but it doesn't make you stronger, it doesn't make you a better player, it doesn't mean you'll have an advantage.

"We think players should find gems that match their play style. Using a sports analogy, going into a sports shop and looking for equipment that fits you, buying the shoe that fits your foot, things like that."

Capcom promised to patch the game post-launch should the community feel a gem is too strong or the balance is suffering.

It's all part of a concerted effort to interact with the community much closer than Capcom has done in the past. Dedicated community managers will be in place to receive and direct feedback, and custom character titles and other game content will be offered as Street Fighter x Tekken tournament prizes.

"Hopefully we can start to build a closer relationship with the fans, and we can hear their concerns and implement any support or tools," Ono said. "It'll be the start of a really close relationship, we hope, with the community."

Mega Man and Pac-Man are playable characters in the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita versions of upcoming fighting game Street Fighter x Tekken, Capcom has announced.

The Mega Man in SFxT is the version of Mega Man seen on the original Mega Man 1 box art. Namco mascot Pac-Man rides on Mokujin, the tree creature from the Tekken series.

Both characters are said to have "light-hearted" fighting styles. See for yourself in the trailer, below.

Mega Man and Pac-Man join fellow PlayStation exclusive characters Cole from Infamous and the Sony cats Toro and Kuro. That makes five Sony exclusive characters for the game. SFxT on Xbox 360 will not feature any exclusive characters.

Why that version of Mega Man? "Well, in the spirit of crossover fun, the dev team wanted both Capcom and Namco's mascots to join the fray in a slightly silly, goofy way," Capcom explained.

"Pac-Man riding Mokujin is about as weird as it can get, so the best equivalent for Mega Man would have to be the so-bad-it's-good-but-still-kinda-bad box art from Mega Man 1 in the US."

Screw Attack has published a list of DLC, which includes gems, colours and new costumes, as well as new characters.

The X Unlocker ($4.99) unlocks two secret characters, Akuma and Ogre, as well as all additional character colours and special modes without having to perform the in-game tasks to unlock them.

The X Unlocker sounds like a time-saving DLC - it seems likely you'll be able to unlock Akuma and Ogre, two characters Capcom has teased previously, without it.

All the DLC listed by Screw Attack amounts to around $55. The list is reproduced below.

It should be noted that both Cody and Guy were shown in an early Street Fighter x Tekken trailer.

A new leak has confirmed the addition of M. Bison, Akuma, Jin and Ogre to Street Fighter x Tekken's bulging roster of playable characters.

Taiwanese gaming site Gamer (via Shoryuken) posted the movesets for the four unannounced fighters.

M. Bison and Akuma arrive from the Capcom side. Jin and Ogre represent the Namco massive.

43 characters are so far confirmed for the crossover fighting game, including five PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 3-exclusive characters.

Last week a leaked list of DLC for the game claimed Cody, Guy, Christie and Leo would be available to purchase.

The list also included mention of The X Unlocker ($4.99), which apparently unlocks secret characters Akuma and Ogre, as well as all additional character colours and special modes without having to perform the in-game tasks to unlock them.

Street Fighter x Tekken Vita Version Features New Characters, Cross-Console Play with PS3

We've got new trailers for the PS Vita edition of Street Fighter x Tekken. Capcom promises 55 characters in the Vita version: the 43 available in the console game as well as six more from each side. Blanka, Cody, Dudly, Elena, Guy, and Sakura round out the Street Fighter crew, and Alisa, Bryan, Christie, Jack, Lars, and Lei come in from team Tekken.

Much to-do was made over the 12 characters exclusive to the Vita version of the game, as they shipped as locked content on the PS3 disc. This fall, players who own the PS3 version who buy the PS Vita edition will see their additional characters unlock. Additionally, all future DLC purchased on one platform will cross over to the other. According to Capcom, "All DLC purchased on the PS3 version can be used on the PS Vita version, and vice versa. Additionally, edited and customized data on the PS Vita version can be transferred to the PS3 version via a save data link."

Continuing the cross-compatibility theme, players who own either the PS3 or the PS Vita editions of the game will be able to compete cross-platform with each other, via the PlayStation Network. The Vita edition also promises to add touch controls to both menu and game screens.

As yet, Capcom has not provided an official release date for Street Fighter x Tekken Vita, saying only "fall 2012."
