God Eater 2

The story is set in 2074, three years after the events of the original game. The world is still threatened by the mysterious living entities known as "Aragami." The sequel's protagonist is a "next-generation God Eater" fighting against the Aragami; he (or she, depending on the character creation process) is a member of the Fenrir organization's special forces unit Blood (Buraddo) who just arrived in the Far East sector. A mysterious red rain has begun fall in this area filled with more ferocious forms of Aragami and humans suffering from an incurable ailment.

The sequel will feature new weapons such as the boost hammer and charge spear, as well as new Aragami such as the Marduk.

Famitsu this week has a five-page look at God Eater 2, the first update on the PSP sequel since November last year.

The game is back with all new features, reworked graphics and character models (now closer to the game’s illustrations), a new “Blood Arts” system, better NPCs, and a new form of multiplayer (which they’re not talking about quite yet).

 

The mag features an interview with game producer Yusuke Tomizawa and director Kou Yoshimura, which disucsses the game’s development and Blood Arts system.

 

According to the pair, the reason for the game’s recent silence was due to a grand day-to-day struggle behind the scenes, putting the game through constant trial and error in efforts to meet fan expectations. However, they believe they’ve met and exceeded expectations with the game’s new concepts.

 

God Eater 2 will launch for PSP in 2012, said Tomizawa, but in order to realize its new concepts, development will take a little more time. A “big surprise” is being planned for the fall. Tomizawa didn’t provide any hints.

 

Regarding the game’s Blood Arts system, these are a set of over 100 attacks players can learn as they progress. According to Yoshimura, as players make use of their techniques, they will advance to the next stage and become further enhanced.

 

Blood Arts can be learned through weapons. But even when you switch weapons, you will still be able to make use of skills acquired through different weapons.

 

NPCs have been given a boost. NPCs meaning, the characters that follow and assist you in battle. Not those boring townsfolk! NPCs, such as Ciel, Julius, and Alisa, will each have their own optional character-specific episodes available to the player at any time, where each can gain Blood Arts. Unlike the original God Eater, NPCs are not being classified into “main” and “sub” groups.

 

And that’s about it. Tomizawa asks that fans look foward to further news, including details on new characters and missions.
