The Norwich Gaming Festival is a free, family-friendly celebration of video games, brought to you by The Forum Trust. Explore the latest releases, classic retro games, coding and game technology.

Norwich Gaming Festival started life as RetroArcade in 2012, as a way of offering something free, interactive and unique to young people and families during the Easter holidays.

The event proved popular, and from this, and working with colleagues at Norwich University of the Arts (NUA), and the University of East Anglia (UEA)the event was broadened to encourage local independent game developers toshowcase their games and skills, and to offer an insight into the game development industry to the public. 2017 saw over 60 developers showcasing their games.

The Festival has grown year on year, with the addition of retail, a more structured platform for independent developers and the gaming industry, and plenty of talks and workshops for visitors to learn more about gaming, programming and also the study and career development options available.

The department of Game Design at Uppsala University campus Gotland, has been teaching game design and development since 2001. The Gotland Game Conference is an annual (very public!) evaluation of our work. The general public, international industry, academia and press are invited to help scrutinize our output, hone our process and celebrate our results.

Our students kick start the event with presentations of their projects; exposing themselves and the education to insightful critique from anexperienced panel of developers, designers, thinkers and artists. We then proceed with a two day conference; wide-ranging talks from brilliant people are interspersed with networking on the show floor, among the student’s games.

The conference aim to push the boundaries of our field– we go out of our way to invite speakers that have seen further and thought deeper than any of us. That said, we are not a technological conference – we care about the culture and human expression – so even themost far-reaching presenters remain accessible to a wide audience of non-experts. COMPUTEX 2018, co-organized by Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and Taipei Computer Association(TCA), held a closing day press conference today. The organizers announced as of 12:00 noon on June 3, 41,378 international visitors from 167 countries attended the show, a 1% increase from last year. The third annual CES Asia surpassed last year’s show in attendance and exhibit space, reinforced the event as the premier showcase for the consumer technology industry in the Eastern Hemisphere. Since its launch in2015, CES Asia has doubled in size as more than 460 exhibiting companiesfrom 22 countries, regions and territories exhibited across a show floorthat covered a record 40,000 gross square meters, expanding from four exhibit halls in 2016 to five this year.

The conference programmingand exhibition floor demonstrated how connected technology is improving our world. The spirit of innovation was alive as the show floor teemed withenergy from large global brands and startups alike, with more than 75 exhibitors from 10 countries at Startup Park, the home for startups at CES Asia.  CES Asia 2017 also featured the broad range of industries disruptedand improved by technology – such as automotive and transportation, sports, fashion and travel. And the show spotlighted technology’s critical role in improving productivity and business services as several speakers andexhibitors showcased their latest business-to-business services and applications.

Industry heavyweights graced the keynote stage, including Baidu, Huawei, JD.com, Le Vision Pictures and Microsoft. While Mr. Wan Biao, COO, Consumer BG, Huawei took the opportunity to launch Huawei’s new range of MateBook laptops, Mr. Gu Weihao, GM, Baidu Intelligent Vehicle spoke about the company’s push for self-driving vehicles through the use of an open, complete and reliable software platform.  Machine learning emerged as a key show theme, as Mr. Zhang Chen, CTO and Dr. Li Kefeng, VP, spoke about JD.com’s use of AI, smart devices, AR, VR and big data to create a more interconnected e-commerce buyer journey, from warehouse to home. Peter Han, VP, Partner Devices and Solutions and Rodney Clark, VP, IoT Device Experience, Microsoft also shared the possibilitiesof an IOT world. Finally, Adam Goodman, President, Le Vision Entertainment and Zhang Zhao, Chairman and CEO, Le Vision Pictures, Vice Chairman, Le Holdings expressed their commitment to provide seamless entertainment for viewers, investing in technology that merges devices and content.

To ensure quality of games it is essential that all members of the quality process are communicating effectively and have the best tools and practices at hand, synergies must be recognised and communication emphasised. In a world where technology is rapidly developing and the reach of our games is further than ever before it is critical we work together to retain and engage players and ultimately to increase sales.

This year, we will focus on the great tools and technologies available to us and the best way to use them and how not touse them. Whilst tools and technologies are a huge factor in our daily roles, we must also ask ourselves, what  human tools can we employe to improve game quality?

We have the privilege of having a wonderful community, some of whom have been with us right from the very beginningand return year on year to continue the discussions and learn of new developments. We also continue to welcome new faces too, who enhance the forum and add a new depth and richness of perspective to the community. How often is INDIGO?


We organize our main showcase once a year. At special occasions, such as game events or conferences, we are often present with a small selection of INDIGO games. That’s our traveling INDIGOon the Road, showcasing highlights of previous editions or promising upcoming games. INDIGO on the Road has been present during the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco, Dutch YouTube Gathering, Campus Party Europe, and Gamescom in Cologne.





What’s so special about INDIGO?


We think INDIGO is pretty unique as a game expo. It’s a platform where developers present their new games to the audience, as well as a market for publishers, investors, press, and other interested parties. The game developers are personally present to pitch their own game, and of course, every game is playable. The games rangefrom brand new prototypes to completed games offering impressive and richexperiences. There are games in all genres, as well as applied games (for healthcare, education, etc) and games using VR or custom controllers.






How do I get my game at INDIGO?

Registration will open soon. We encourage both professionals and students tosubmit, and we are happy to announce that international developers are welcome too! We welcome all platforms, but you must provide your own hardware. Submitting your game doesn’t automatically mean you’re selected. Dutch Game Garden makes the final selection.
