Some brand new Tomb Raider info has been released and here we are to give them to you.

 

- Don’t expect much of the old linear platforming formula. “We’re now giving the player the opportunity to go into a space and choose their own path. Where we take you across the ledge of the B-52 bomber, that’s a tutorial. Once you move away from the plane, everything is basically open, dynamic traversal where the player has the freedom to roam around a jump from location to location with ease…”

 

- You’ll be able to air steer, direction control, speed her up/down during jumps

 

- The game has an XP system. You’ll be able to use this for upgrading Lara’s abilities. You’ll also have to scavenge for materials to upgrade Lara’s equipment

 

- The base camps will allow you to upgrade Lara’s abilities, improve your equipment and fast travel to other base camps that you’ve visited on the island

 

- Early on you’ll only have a few options to upgrade Lara, such as giving her the ability to carry additional arrows for her bow or increasing the speed that she’s able to shoot the arrows. As you continue the system will open up and allow you to shape her abilities to your playstyle.

 

- The context-sensitive actions are one-off sequences. For example, the scene with Lara stabbing the wolf is only going to happen once in the game. They say that if you do it right the first time it’ll have an impact.

 

- “There is linearity to the story – you have to go from point A to point B – but there’s junctions in between where we want the player to feel like they’re real explorers.” These are described as non-linear hub spaces that you can come back to at different times of day.

Square Enix have today announced that British beauty Camilla Luddington will be the new voice of Lara Croft.

 

So who is Camilla, and what does she bring to Britain’s greatest gaming export that previous voice actors Shelley Blond, Judith Gibbons, Jonell Elliot, and the infamous Keeley Hawes, couldn’t?

 

She’s not just the voice – she’s the body as well.

 

Luddington is the first person in Tomb Raider history to provide both the voice and motion capture for a Lara Croft adventure. This instantly gives her an edge over the previous voice actors – yep, even the great Keeley Hawes.

Lara Croft was completely hand animated until Tomb Raider: Underworld, which saw Heidi Moneymaker step in to help lend more realistic movements to Hawes’ voice work.

 

Note the word “body” by the way, not “model”. Luddington won’t be appearing at shows in her Croft get up like the well known gymnast Alison Carroll or the naughty Nell McAndrew. Crystal Dynamics have banned it.

Crystal Dynamics’ global brand director Karl Stewart told the site: “I have to be careful because I know exactly where she’s going.

 

“You have to look at the future, you have to look at where… It’s not just one game.

 

“At the end of this game we want her to be that strong female character that is willing to go and seek out mysteries and seek out tombs. She’s going to be going to plenty of tombs in this game, but we’re going to have somebody who wants to go on that adventure, who wants to be the person that she now is. That’s the goal.”

 

Stewaer refused to expand on the future of the franchise.

 

“I don’t want to say anymore on it because I’ll have the game director of the next game going, ‘What the fuck are you saying?’”
